First in new GMCs, Baramulla gets PMR Centre to facilitate patient care

Srinagar, May 19: The Government Medical College (GMC) in Baramulla celebrated a major milestone today as it became the first among the newly established GMCs to introduce a state-of-the-art Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) Centre and Gymnasium.
The inauguration of the Centre was carried out by Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar, the Deputy Commissioner of Baramulla, who was accompanied by Dr. (Prof) Ruby Reshi, Principal of GMC Baramulla, Dr Parvaiz Masoodi, Medical Superintendent of Associated Hospital GMC Baramulla, and other Heads of Departments of GMC Baramulla.

“This occasion has marked a significant milestone for GMC Baramulla as the first newly established Medical College to offer such comprehensive facilities,” stated the officials, expressing their enthusiasm for the newly unveiled PMR Centre and Gymnasium.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the PMR Centre and Gymnasium have been established to cater primarily to the needs of post-trauma, post-stroke, orthopaedic, and congenital ortho patients.
“Equipped with cutting-edge equipment and specialized care, the officials said, the centre aims to prioritize rehabilitation and recovery, thereby enhancing the quality of life for patients,” she said.
Principal GMC Dr. (Prof) Ruby Reshi, said that the Deputy Commissioner has approved projects worth Rs 1 crore for GMC Baramulla. “These projects include the construction of a new MRD Block, the establishment of a Urological Unit, and the upgrade of the Emergency Resuscitation Unit; these will help in making the patient care further better,” she said.
During the inauguration ceremony, the Head of the PMR Department provided an overview of the available amenities and emphasized the significant benefits these facilities would bring to the people of North Kashmir, especially those in need of post-trauma and orthopaedic care.
“The centre’s services will provide tailored rehabilitation programs that address the unique needs of patients, ensuring optimal recovery and functional improvement,” he stated.
The establishment of the PMR Centre and Gymnasium at GMC Baramulla reflects the institution’s commitment to comprehensive healthcare and medical education, according to officials.
“By providing specialized facilities and services, GMC Baramulla aims to make a significant contribution to the well-being and rehabilitation of individuals in North Kashmir,” they added.
Following the inauguration, a presentation session was held to showcase the achievements and ongoing work of GMC Baramulla since its inception. Dr Waseem Iqbal presented the institution’s accomplishments as well as the challenges it has faced and continues to face as it evolves and grows.
