Police launches special drive against timber smuggler

DODA, May 19: Police here today launched a special drive to save the green gold and has booked a number of timber smugglers besides seizure of illicit timber and vehicles in areas of Thathri and Bhaderwah.
Sources informed that through reliable sources Police Station Thathri on May 18 learnt that some timber smugglers had fallen standing trees of deodar using mechanical cutter in the forest area of Chiralla (Thathri) and huge quantity of extracted logs and scants have been dumped there.
After receipt of this information, Police swung into action and a team of cops led by SHO Thathri Inspector Amrit Katoch reached the spot and seized the logs and scants of deodar trees extracted and dumped by timber smugglers in forest compartment of Chiralla range.
In this connection a case in FIR No. 40/2023 was registered at Police Station Thathri and investigation set into motion.
Prior to this, Doda Police registered 3 FIRs at Police Station Thathri and 2 at Police Station Bhaderwah during the current year in which 9 timber smugglers were booked and huge quantity of illicit timber was seized and one vehicle used for transportation of illicit timber was seized.
It is pertinent to mention here that Doda Police has launched a special drive at Police Station level against timber smugglers in the areas of Dessa, Chiralla Thathri, Gandoh, Bhaderwah, Gundna, Bagla Bharath, Marmat and has appealed to the general public to provide inputs, if any, regarding damage to the green gold in their area.
