Protests against erratic power rock Srinagar, Beerwah

SRINAGAR, Dec 2: Srinagar and Beerwah areas of the Valley rocked with protests against erratic electricity supply today with residents pouring on roads and chanting slogans against the Government.
In Srinagar, the agitating residents, including women, blocked the M.A Road near Budshah Chowk and raised slogans against Power Development Department (PDD).
Alleging that the department has ignored the civilian population by plunging them into darkness, the protestors uninterrupted power supply was being supplied to the residences of Ministers and security force establishments.
“We are paying month’s power tariff. In return, the PDD is not providing us the required electricity in these chilly winter days,” protesters said
The protesters also chanted slogans against the PDD, concerned MLA Nasir Sogami and against Chief Minister as he is holding power portfolio with himself.
Some protesters barged in the nearby Basant Bagh Power Receiving Station burnt some rotten electric poles there.
However, police deployed on the spot controlled the protestors.
Similarly, residents in central Kashmir’s Beerwah area took to streets Monday morning.
The residents said that electricity remained off most of the time in their area and despite repeated reminders to the PDD officials that power curtailment programme should be followed properly.
Reports of protests against PDD also poured in from Chadoora in Budgam and Nishat, Natipora  areas in Srinagar.
Residents said for last four days their areas were reeling under complete darkness.
