Awareness camp on Artificial Insemination organised

LEH, Dec 2: Acting on the directions of  general council meet of the LAHDC, regarding comprehensive awareness  in district Leh, the Animal Husbandry Department today organised one-day district level awareness camp on the Artificial Insemination (AI)  here today.
The awareness programme was chaired by Chief Executive Councilor Leh, Rigzin Spalbar. While speaking on the occasion, Spalbar highly appreciated the proactive approach of Animal Husbandry Department in Leh district  headed by Dr Qayum with the intention to serve the farmers. He pointed out that prime concern of the Council is to make Ladakh region  self- sufficient by exploring all possible means.  He said that AI is the most reliable and  world-wide accepted technology for rapid genetic improvement of high yielding cows  and said that Council with the objective to benefit the farmers has already installed a liquid Nitrogen plant at Leh spending crores of rupees to store semen.  He directed the Animal Husbandry Department to prepare a project of Semen Processing Plant for Leh so that Council can look for its funding.
Executive Councilor Animal & Husbandry Husbandry, Gyurmet Dorjey said that for the last three days the Para- Veterinary staff  of the department in Leh is being trained in  AI technique. He underlined the achievements of Council in livestock development  and milk production.
Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Leh Dr Qayum also spoke on the occasion and gave detailed power point presentation on AI technique and its advantages.  Several ECs, staff members of  the department and farmers from various parts of Leh attended the programme.
