Association of Deaf & Dumb submits memo to Govt

JAMMU, Dec 2: Association of Deaf and Dumb submitted memorandum to Government highlighting various demands of the deaf and dumb people.
As per statement issued to the press, Vijay Kumar Gupta, president of the association said that the world’s largest minority that of disable people (about 15 per cent of world population) do not have equal access to society or services, including education, employment, health care, transportation, political participation or justice.
On one side there are many a nations who are trying their every bit to initiate various actions which will help to remove barriers that limit accessibility for and participation by persons with disabilities in all aspects of society and development, on the other had there are a few who choose to close their eyes rather than be part of this sanctimonious mission, he added.
He demanded educational institution for deaf and dumb in entire State, ITI level training institute, rehabilitation policy, reservation quota, special recruitment drive for 8th pass deaf and dumb aspirants, rehabilitation for over aged, enhancement of monthly pension of Rs 400 to Rs 2500 per month and treatment and rehabilitation facility in Government Medical College (GMC) and other District Hospitals of Jammu province for the children who born deaf and dumb.
