JAMMU, Dec 3: Government has mooted a proposal of providing bus services from Banihal to Udhampur for the passengers desirous to travel by train to the different parts of the country.
This information was given in a high level meeting convened by the Minister for Transport Choudhary Muhammad Ramzan, Minister of State for Technical Education, PDD Vikar Rasool and senior officers of Northern Railways and SRTC here today.
The meeting was told that proposal has already been sent to the Union Ministry of Railways for starting a train service from New Delhi to Udhampur at the morning hours. The passengers desirous to travel by this train can be transported to Banihal by means of the other transport service being provided by the State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) for their travel to other parts of Kashmir valley.
The Ministers directed the Managing Director (SRTC) to follow up the matter vigorously so that the other modalities are sorted out as early as possible.
It was also given out in the meeting that a non-stop bus service would start from Udhampur at 8.30 in the morning and the same would be free of cost for the passengers traveling by train from Banihal onwards.
Mr. Ramzan said that the Government is committed to provide quality transportation facilities to the people of the state for their travel to different parts of the country. He said in this regard the Government is waiting for a concurrence and approval from the Northern Railways to start the proposed bus service for the convenience of the passengers very soon.
Mr. Vikar said that by undertaking such an arrangement, the people of the Valley would be getting a cheaper and better means of transportation for traveling to the different parts of the country and in this regard the State would be connected to the rest of the states. He said the Government has undertaken various schemes for the overall welfare of the people and this service would go a long way in providing better connectivity to the people of the state and Valley in particular.
Divisional Traffic Manager Northern Railways Jammu R. N. Meena, Secretary Transport Shahid Anayatullah and Managing Director JKSRTC J. S. Tandon attended the meeting.
