RAMBAN, May 27: Panic gripped Banihal after a wild bear was spotted straying in the premises of Government Higher Secondary School for Boys in Banihal Saturday morning.
Source said that a black bear was spotted around 9 am in the School premises.
They said that soon after getting information about the presence of the bear, Police and Wildlife Department teams reached the spot for capturing the animal but till then it fled away from the spot and disappeared into the surrounding bushes.
However wildlife department teams fanned out in the area and launched a large-scale search operation for tracing and capturing the bear.
A Wildlife Department official said that no success was achieved as the bear fled away into forest area and disappeared.
He said that after completing the search operation in and around the School, the Wildlife Department team allowed the students to attend classes.
