Srinagar, May 31: The Directorate of Ayush J&K, in collaboration with the Morarji Desai Institute of Yoga, New Delhi, today celebrated the occasion of “YOGOTSAV” – a series of yoga activities leading up to the 9th International Day of Yoga, which will be celebrated on June 21.
The event took place at Polo Ground here, embodying the essence of yoga and its significance. As part of the “YOGOTSAV” campaign, yoga sessions are being conducted across J&K, with a target of hosting a minimum of 100 sessions during this grand festival.
The event commenced with a mega yoga session organized by the Directorate of Ayush, J&K, from 7:00 to 9:00 AM here.
The session was inaugurated by Bhupinder Kumar, Secretary, Health & Medical Education Department, in the presence of Dr Masood Tanvir, Principal of Govt Medical College Srinagar, Dr Mohan Singh, Director Ayush J&K, and Nuzhat Ara, Divisional Officer of Youth Services and Sports.
The event witnessed the participation of medical and para-medical staff from the Directorate of Ayush J&K, paramilitary forces, members of civil society, and the general public.
Trained yoga instructors from the Directorate of Ayush, J&K, under the guidance of Dr Ruhi Tabssum, a yoga expert, conducted demonstrations of common yoga asanas and pranayamas aimed at preventing various lifestyle disorders.
The participants were also introduced to yog nidra and meditation techniques to alleviate stress-related disorders and enhance concentration levels.
During the occasion, Secretary H&ME highlighted the significance of International Day of Yoga, an initiative first introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the opening of the 69th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
He emphasized the role of yoga in achieving physical, mental, and spiritual well-being, and its ability to foster a balanced attitude towards everyday life, enhancing skill and performance.
Dr Mohan Singh, Director Ayush J&K, expressed the commitment of the Directorate of Ayush J&K to organize various activities leading up to the 9th International Day of Yoga.
“The aim is to promote the proven practices of yoga among the general public, with the ultimate goal of achieving holistic health encompassing physical and mental well-being,” he said.
He announced that the grand finale of the Mega Yoga Event for the 9th International Day of Yoga would be held on June 21, 2023, at the district headquarters of Jammu/Srinagar.
