POONCH, May 31: Up in arms against opening of a wine shop at Saiklu area of Mandi in Poonch, activists of many political and social organizations today staged a strong protest while religious scholars held press conference to convey their resentment.
Speaking in the press conference, religious scholars from Muslim community said that when the process to open the wine shop was started, people from all the section of Tehsil Mandi had opposed that and urged Government to not open the wine shop there . “But still after that, the license to open the shop has been issued and we once again urge administration to cancel the issued license and close the wine shop,” they added.
Many political and social workers also staged protest at Saiklu and said that on one hand Government is taking initiative to make country `Nasha Mukt’, but at the same time opening wine shops.
“We want schools, colleges, grounds and all other facilities for our youth here and not the wine shop which will prove disaster for their future. We too urge admin to cancel the license and close this shop immediately,” they added.
Meanwhile, Tehsildar Mandi Shahzad Latief Khan and other administrative officers reached the spot and assured people to take up the matter with higher authorities.
