ASI’s son, SFC official held, SIT formed

JAMMU, June 19: Police authorities have constituted a Special Investigating Team (SIT) in Udhampur’s sex racket in which four more persons including a Government official and son of a police officer were arrested today, taking total arrests to 16.
The SIT has been formed following reports that some influential persons could be involved in the racket. The women involved in the racket had stayed in hotels at tourist resorts of Patnitop and Kud besides holy town of Katra.
Additional SP Udhampur Benam Tosh would head the SIT, which comprised DySP Suram Singh, SHO Women Cell, Udhampur, Anita Kattal and SHO Udhampur Inspector Gian Sharma.
Benam Tosh said police today arrested four more persons involved in the racket, two of whom have been identified as Kunj Lal, an official of State Finance Corporation and resident of Tagoor, Kishtwar and Mushtaq Ahmad son of ASI Bashir Ahmad, presently posted in Police Training Centre at Talwara and a resident of Gursai, Mendhar.
Two others, arrested today, were women, whose identity has been kept as secret.
A Drill Instructor and Head Constable Shamas Din, posted in Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA), Udhampur has already been arrested by police.
The ASP Udhampur said while 12 persons had already been arrested, four others were arrested today, taking total arrests to 16. More arrests were on the cards, he added.
‘‘So far, we have unearthed 11 brothels in Udhampur City alone”, Benam Tosh said, adding further investigations in the case were in progress.
