KARGIL, June 4: Various delegations called on the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) during his arrival at the Block Development Council/Block Development Officer’s office in Sodh block on the first day of his tour to Kargil.
Advocate Asgar Ali, on behalf of Councillor, Yourbaltak, Ahmad Ali Khan, raised several issues, viz. the need to sanction the lift irrigation project for Sodh block to address the issue of drinking water/irrigation water in the drought-prone area; issuance of Actual Line of Control (ALC) certificate; need to give preference to locals during engagement of labourers by Border Roads Organisation (BRO) for various project works; need to constitute a special inspection committee to conduct a survey to study the underground water, etc.
Feroz raised the need for additional funding for the completion of the lift-irrigation project. The LG inquired about necessary steps that could be taken to complete the lift irrigation project at the earliest for the benefit of the villagers.
Chairperson, Block Development Council (BDC), Sodh, Zakir Hussain raised the need for the construction of a Government Degree College for the block; the need for construction of a playground for the youth; the need for the upgradation of the existing health centre at the block, etc.
The LG informed about the plan to upgrade and establish new administrative blocks, educational institutions, health centres and police stations.
Sarpanch/Panch of various villages such as Apati, Barchey, Sodh and Akchamal raised several demands, including the need for delimitation of panchayat halqa; promotion of tourism activities, construction of the pavilion at the playground; blacktopping of the link road; establishment/upgradation of health centres and setting up of digital library, etc.
A delegation comprising Panchayat Accounts Assistants and outsourced Accounts Assistants requested for streamlining for their timely promotion and for the enhancement of their salaries.
Meanwhile, Commander-in-chief of Indian Air Force’s Western Air Command, Air Marshall Pankaj M Sinha also called on Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) at Raj Niwas.
Air Marshall Pankaj Sinha informed that C-130 J Hercules flights can land on the existing runway at Kargil and assured to look into the demand of operating flights on the Jammu-Srinagar route twice a week.
