CUK’s Journalism Deptt holds guest lectures

SRINAGAR, Dec 6: The Department of Convergent Journalism, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) organized guest lectures on ‘Role of Archives, Recordkeeping in Journalism’ and ‘Importance of Visual Language and Cartoony in Journalism’ here.
The lectures were delivered by Idrees Kanth, a Kashmir-based research scholar on South Asian History in Leiden University, Netherlands, and Malik Sajad, noted cartoonist working with English daily, Greater Kashmir.
Kanth explained the importance of archives in the present times. “The role of journalist is very important as they record everyday history in newspapers which then is readily used by various researchers, students and historians for reference purpose,”.
Sajad lectured on the importance of visual language and cartoons and the challenges faced by the artists in the Valley and also enlightened students about the emergence of art of graphic novels.
