JAMMU, June 6: National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) Jammu University today demanded the University administration to keep the Dhanvantari Library open 24×7 for the benefit of the students.
Addressing a press conference here today, NSUI JU president Jatin Dogra said that the Central Library is being opened only from 8 am to 11 pm for the past two years, which is causing problem to students. He said NSUI gave a memorandum to the University last year, which was neglected by the university. Then, NSUI sat on a hunger strike but the University administration used many tricks to remove the students from there.

Dogra said the University administration along with the so-called students’ organizations has befooled the students on the issue. He said now, NSUI has given a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor again, requesting that the University should not take the students for granted.
The NSUI JU president said that the University always refers to security threat as the reason for not extending the library timings. “I want to ask them on what basis they opened up the library membership for outsiders and why did they neglect the Department of Distance Education in this regard? Don’t they feel any threat from outsiders? What kind of threat do they feel from insider hostel boarders?,” he questioned.
He requested the university administration to keep the library open 24×7 so that it does not hinder the future goals of the students. He also demanded that the hostel girls be given the facility to study in the library till 10 pm.
Salik Ali (vice president, NSUI JU) said if the University administration does not fulfill their demands soon, NSUI will protest with all the University students. Others present on the occasion were Khushi Chib, Sharav Sharma, Sneha Kundal and Tazeem Farooq.
