GMC, GDC Srinagar ink MoU for Dental Unit at Fakir Gujri

Srinagar, June 6: In a significant move towards improving oral healthcare in the peripheries of Kashmir, the Government Dental College & Hospital, Srinagar and the Government Medical College, Srinagar today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The signing ceremony took place here, under the supervision of Prof. Riyaz Farooq, Principal of GDC, Srinagar, and Prof. Masood Tanvir, Principal/Dean of GMC, Srinagar.
A GMC official said that the MoU aims to enhance the partnership between the Department of Public Health Dentistry at GDC Srinagar and the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine at GMC Srinagar.
Under the MoU, the two institutes will collaborate to address the need for oral health care, education, and prevention of oral diseases in remote areas of the valley.
The MoU was signed by Dr Aasim Farooq Shah, Head of the Department of Public Health Dentistry at GDC Srinagar, and Prof. S. Muhammad Salim Khan, Head of the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine (Community Medicine) at GMC Srinagar.
Under this agreement, GMC said, the two departments will work together to improve the oral health status and well-being of the resident community.
“They will establish a satellite dental clinic at the Health Centre in Fakir Gujri, a Tribal population area in Block Hazratbal within the limits of Srinagar district. Currently, this area lacks a Dental Health Centre for the treatment of dental diseases in the tribal population.”
