JAMMU, Dec 6: Putting all the speculations to rest that BJP has softened its stand on Article 370, its senior leader and MP, Tarun Vijay today said that his party is committed to its abrogation as instead of doing the good to the people of the State it has harmed their interests in last over 60 years.
“The abrogation of Article 370 is in our agenda and the party does not only want a debate on it but is committed to its abrogation’’, Mr Vijay along with BJP’s State chief spokesperson and National Executive Member, Dr Jitendra Singh and party general secretaries Bali Bhagat and Kavinder Gupta told reporters here.
“BJP is for one flag, one Constitution and one law for entire nation and is opposed to separate flag in the State for which the former Jan Sangh president and a great patriot Dr Shamaparsad Mookerjee laid down his life,’’ he added.
“We have been inspired by his sacrifices and will not leave his task unfinished’’, he said, adding “had it not been the NDA but BJP Government at Centre during Atal Behari Vajpayee’s rule we would have abrogated Article 370’’.
Fully endorsing the stand of party’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Article 370, Mr Vijay said this Article is against the gender equality which has pushed the J&K into poverty and backwardness.
Taking a dig at Congress which is the coalition partner of NC in the State, he said the party which is harping on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the country is helpless in brining FDI in J&K as instead of FDI it is Terrorist Direct Investment (TDI) in the state especially in Kashmir valley. This has resulted into exodus of intelligent and hardworking youth from the State in search of jobs to other parts of country because there is no FDI in the State, he added.
He said Article 370 has turned Kashmir into a subsidy Valley and youth leave Valley for better carrier opportunities outside the State.
He while, criticising he Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah asked him what steps he took in strengthening the values of nationalism in the State and alleged that the National Anthem is not sung in the Government institutions in the State which is a cause of grave concern.
Maintaining that Omar Abdullah is the first Chief Minister of the State who accepted the debate on Article 370, the BJP leader said Mr Abdullah should take steps for its abrogation to pay the debts of his motherland.
He said the Article 370 is such an instrument which shrinks India in J&K. Ridiculing the statements that Article 370 can’t be abrogated from the Indian Constitution, Mr Vijay said that out of 187 books written on Indian Constitution and Article 370 not a single book supports this contention.
The Parliament is supreme and it can change any law, he added.
The Constitution itself says that Article 370 is a temporary provision and can be removed at any time said Dr Jitendra Singh. Those who say that the special status of State can’t be changed are mistaken and interpreting the Constitution in a wrong way as any law can be made and amended, he added.
On Omar Abdullah’s statement that he will go to Ahmadabad for debate on Article 370, Dr Jitendra Singh said there is no need of going to Ahmedabad as the debate on Article is in public domain. “If CM is sincere he should address the questions raised by BJP here itself instead of seeking to share platform with Narendra Modi to gain publicity’’, he added.
