SRINAGAR, June 9: In response to long-standing grievances from passengers regarding delays and hassles at the Drop Gate entry, Srinagar Airport today introduced a new facility called Drop & Go, aimed at reducing waiting times and enhancing passenger convenience.
The initiative, announced by the Airport Director, aims to streamline the vehicle checking, baggage screening, and personal frisking processes, which, the airport authorities said, have been causing significant delays for passengers seeking entry to the airport.
Previously, the airport authorities said, passengers were advised to arrive at the airport four hours in advance to avoid missing their flights. “However, despite such precautions, complaints of missed flights due to delays persisted. Acknowledging the increasing hassles, the initiative has been implemented, which offers a more efficient and hassle-free experience.”
Under the new system, passengers can leave their vehicles at the drop gate, where they will undergo a swift baggage screening process using X-ray technology.
Following the screening, authorities said, passengers can conveniently board the newly introduced eco-friendly battery-operated e-carts stationed at the Drop Gate.
“These complimentary e-carts are designed to transport passengers along with their baggage directly to the terminal building.”
The airport authorities have ensured that the e-carts are both comfortable and environmentally friendly, while the passengers have the option to avail paid porter services if they require assistance.
By introducing this service, the airport aims to reduce delays at the Drop Gate by approximately 40% to 50%, thereby enhancing overall operational efficiency.
Moreover, the authorities said, the Drop and Go facility is not limited to departing passengers only; arriving passengers can also take advantage of this service.
“Upon arrival at Srinagar Airport, passengers can board the e-carts from the designated arrival exit and enjoy a smooth ride until they reach the Drop Gate. From there, they can conveniently access their vehicles and proceed to their respective destinations.”
To initiate the program, the airport has deployed four state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly e-carts on an experimental basis.
“The success of the initiative will be evaluated based on the response received from passengers. If the service proves to be popular and effective, the airport authorities are prepared to increase the number of e-carts to accommodate the growing demand.”
The Airport Director has invited passengers to make full use of the Drop and Go facility, emphasizing that there will be no additional charges for utilizing this service.
