Srinagar, June 12: Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura has announced the Intramural Research Grant for the year 2023-24. The grant aims to support both basic and clinical projects and facilitate the expansion of services at the hospital.
As per the directives, the grants will be distributed in two categories, with the first category catering to senior and junior faculty members.
Senior faculty members who currently serve as guides for Post-Doctoral, Post Graduate, and P.G Diploma students will be eligible for grants. The funds, directives state, will support the thesis work of the students under their guidance, subject to approval from respective departmental Research Committees.
“Thesis topics must receive proper approval from the departmental Research Committees. The second category will cover junior faculty members,” read the directives issued by the Dean Medical Faculty.
Junior faculty members who are not yet designated as guides can also submit research proposals about their specific interests. “These proposals should demonstrate their intent to address local issues or expand departmental facilities by acquiring larger extramural grants.”
According to the guidelines, project proposals in both categories must be formulated around research questions that have the potential to secure larger extramural grants.
“The proposals should be designed in a way that they contribute to the future expansion of SKIMS services or offer solutions to local health problems,” the directives note.
Further, it has been given out that, as for the duration of the projects, they are typically limited to 24 months. However, after a review by the Project Review Committee, the duration can be extended up to a maximum of 30 months.
All submitted projects will undergo a peer review process, and the Project Investigator(s)/Students will be invited to present their proposals before the Project Review Committee. “The committee will employ an objective assessment method in its evaluation.”
Before the release of the grant funds to successful proposals, SKIMS said, the guides are responsible for obtaining ethical clearance and that the financial assistance should be utilized for the purchase of consumables such as chemicals, reagents, kits, disposables, and micropipettes.
“Permanent equipment, including computers and accessories, as well as staff salaries, are not covered under this grant.”
