Cops injured in attack by sand mafia; accused held

JAMMU, June 13: Two police personnel were injured after they were attacked by the influential sand mafia here on the city outskirts, police said today.
They said one of the attackers has been arrested by Police Station Domana.
A police spokesperson said that acting on specific information, a team of Border Police Post Sandwan raided a suspected location on Monday evening where sand mafia was mining illegally.
“The team seized a JCB but it was stopped midway by the influential mafia,” he said.
The police spokesperson added that to control the situation, another police team led by incharge Police Post Pouni Chak was rushed to the spot.
Somehow the team managed to get back the JCB but it was again stopped by the mafia which resorted to lathicharge on the police team. In the scuffle, incharge Police Post Pouni Chak and another cop was injured, said the spokesperson, adding that they have been hospitalised.
Meanwhile, the accused has been booked by Domana Police under sections 353, 332, 147, 148, 149, and 341 of the IPC and further investigations taken up.
