DGP sanctions welfare relief of over Rs 23 lakh

SRINAGAR, June 14: The Director General of Police, Dilbag Singh, has sanctioned Rs 23.95 lakh as welfare relief and scholarships to support the families of martyred/deceased, retired police personnel/SPOs.
Out of this amount, Rs 9.85 lakhs have been allocated as welfare relief for the Next of Kin (NoK) of martyred police personnel/SPOs, ranging from Rs 20,000 to Rs 50,000. The funds are provided from the J&K Police Pariwar Fund.
In addition, Rs 14.10 lakh has been sanctioned as welfare relief for retired policemen/NoK of deceased police personnel. This relief will aid in self-treatment, treatment of dependents, and support marriage expenses. The welfare relief is sourced from the Retired Policemen Welfare Fund.
Furthermore, scholarships and special rewards amounting to over Rs 5.98 lakh have been sanctioned for 72 wards of martyred/deceased and serving police personnel/SPOs. Scholarships worth Rs 4.51 lakh have been approved for 20 wards of police martyrs and 36 wards of deceased police personnel, covering education from primary to higher levels. These scholarships are provided for the academic year 2022-2023 from the Central Police Welfare Fund & Central Police Education Fund.
Additionally, meritorious scholarships of Rs 1.17 lakh have been sanctioned for 13 wards of serving police personnel who achieved excellent academic results in the 2022 graduation/post-graduation examinations. The scholarships are funded from the Central Police Welfare Fund.
Special rewards of Rs 10,000 each, along with a Commendation Certificate Class-1st, have been granted to three wards of serving SPOs who qualified the Competitive Examination (BOPEE) in 2022-23, using funds from the J&K Police Pariwar Fund.
These initiatives aimed to provide financial support and educational opportunities to the families of police personnel, thereby alleviating their distress and acknowledging their contributions.
