SAMBA, June 14: Apni Party Provincial President, Jammu, and former Minister, S Manjit Singh today demanded 24/7 electricity supply in Jammu region in view of soaring temperature in the summer season.
Addressing a public meeting here, the former Minister raised the issues being confronted by the people across the plains of Jammu, Samba, Kathua, and Udhampur with regard to the unscheduled power cuts.
“These power cuts have affected normal life because the curtailment is taking place for hours together in rural as well as in urban areas of Jammu plains,” he said.
He said that the people are unable to bear the scorching heat wave whereas the PDD has failed to ensure round the clock supply of the electricity despite assurances that the consumers would get 24/7 electricity supply in the metered areas.
“However, the PDD has not been able to fulfill its promise. The required electricity is not being purchased by the PDD citing various reasons but they forget that they collect revenue from the electricity consumers in the shape of electricity charges yet the electricity is not being supplied,” he said.
He said that the Govt should take a strict action against the officials of PDD for not projecting the required electricity that is to be purchased for J&K. Instead the PDD has restored to unscheduled long hours cuts that have caused uneasiness among the general masses.
Manjit Singh said that the long hours power cuts also affect the water supply system especially in the Kandi belt and people remain without tap water supply during the summer season.
“With constant power cuts, the extra pressure is put on their pocket as they have to hire private water tanks to supply them clean water,” he added.
He also stated that the farmers in villages also face similar problems because water pumps do not work without the electricity. “The paddy season is approaching and the farmers are unable to water their fields,” he stated.
Manjit Singh said that if the Apni Party forms the next Govt in Jammu and kashmir, 500 units of electricity will be provided free of cost during summer season, and 300 units during winters in Jammu region.
