Treat them well

Sir,
Socially disabled group constitutes a sizeable portion of our population. It includes lepers, visually impaired and other physically challenged persons. They are present everywhere but mostly in urban pockets where they are seen asking for money to eke out their living.
The presence of this disabled group is a stigma on our civilized social fabric. The miserable condition of this excluded group presents a shabby picture of our society before the outer civilized world.
However, the fact of the matter is that nature has made them abled in one or the other respect although they are disabled in one way. Merely being disabled in one respect cannot be construed as wholly disabled.
It is pertinent to mention here that scholars have done a wonderful job  by rechristening them “differently abled” to give them respectability in their social role. In fact we have instincts where many disabled persons have even entered coveted civil services. Many are doing unusual stunts like conquering peaks. It calls for serious attention from power corridors to look after the welfare of this neglected group. There is utmost need for constructing shed like structures on the road side where they can eke out their living.  Further there is a need to arrange skill development programmes to ameliorate their lot. Social organisations and NGO’s should also come forward to address this benevolent cause. Media has a special role to being to limelight the issues of this excluded group.
Yours etc….
