JAMMU, Dec 8: Voice For Rights (VR), an NGO working for protection of human rights in collaboration with J&K Police and supported by Jammu People’s Peace Forum, today organized a one-day workshop on “Introduction of New Law on Juvenile Justice and Protection of Children from Sexual Abuse” at police auditorium.
A galaxy of police officers, young lawyers, media persons and intelligentsia listened to the thoughtful lectures of Advocate Anant Asthana and Advocate Aagney Sail, resource persons from New Delhi.
The workshop was inaugurated by Inspector General of Jammu Police Rajesh Kumar Yadav while DIG Jammu Shakeel Ahmed Beigh was guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, IGP Rajesh Kumar asked police officers to be sensitive towards Juveniles and deal their cases with care and caution. He said that children who are at the stage of growing up don’t actually know the consequences of their actions and hence they must treat them keeping in view the behaviour of their own children at home.
The first session of the workshop was dedicated to introduction of new law on Juvenile Justice, in which advocate Asthana dwelt at length on the need, necessity and implementation of the new act.
In the second session Advocate Aagney Sail presented a detailed paper on introduction of new law on child sexual abuse and also held an interactive session answering the questions of the participants.
Deepika Singh Rajawat, president, Voice for Rights (VR) presented her paper on J&K Human Rights situation and need to strengthen the laws to protect the human rights of the citizens.
Earlier, senior advocate Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed, vice president VR explained the objectives of the workshop. King Bharati, senior journalist of the Voice for Rights presented vote of thanks.
