Protest against bovine smuggling

UDHAMPUR, June 16: Locals of Dudu area today staged a protest demonstration against bovine smuggling and blocked Udhampur-Dudu road for more than two hours.
The protesters gathered at main Chowk Dudu and raised slogans against police and civil administration.
They alleged that some people of the area, in connivance with police are carrying on bovine smuggling and demanded their immediate arrest.
The protesters said that some anti-social elements are habitual of bovine smuggling and steal cattle from the local areas and in connivance with police they illegally transport these cattle in vehicles during night hours.
The protest was led by Darshan Kumar, BDC Member.
The protesters including Krishan Kumar, Sarpanch, Thakur Hans Raj, Ex-Sarpanch, Romesh Kumar, Suresh Kumar and Soba Ram said that cases of bovine smuggling are on an increase in Dudu in last few days.
“In order to maintain peace and harmony in the area, we want that the accused should be booked under Public Safety Act as they are habitual criminals,” the protesters demanded.
Later on, a team of officers led by Kul Raj Singh, SDM, Dudu along with SHO Dudu and other officers reached the spot and pacified protesters assuring action against the culprits involved in bovine smuggling.
