Corruption to be crucial, decisive factor in forthcoming elections: Vakil

RAFIABAD, Dec 8: Former Minister and Member AICC Abdul Gani Vakil today appealed party high command to announce its party candidates for all Parliamentary constituencies in the state so that Congress party remains alive in the hearts and minds of people particularly in Kashmir Valley because all other major parties have taken a lead in this behalf.
He said that it is high time to chose and field only those candidates having clean credentials with no previous record of corruption and every tainted individual independent of his rank in the party should be directed to distance himself from Parliament and Assembly elections. Mr. Vakil was addressing public meetings at Binner and Chotipora (Rafiabad) in district Baramulla.
While addressing people Vakil reiterated that that corruption is going to be a crucial and decisive factor in forthcoming elections because people of the State have suffered a lot due to prevalent corruption in the system at every level. He said that election results of the four state reflect the exemplary democracy prevalent in the country and a lesson needs to be learnt how people are sensitive to each and every issue particularly performance, development or corruption etc. He urged people of the State to adopt this path and never pay heed to slogans which have materialization to exploit them on emotional, regional and religious grounds.
He appealed people to reject those parties which forget their promises and election manifesto after grabbing the power for six years and dedicate themselves only for amassing wealth and think that they have ability to befool people on tricky issues in every election. He said that regional parties after winning elections are habitual of remaining silent on important issues which are directly related to poor masses and leave them at the mercy of God.
Mr. Vakil urged people to judge and elect candidates after evaluating their past performance and credentials. He assured them that Congress party has no regional or religious bias and will rededicate itself to develop this beautiful state as a model state and the way shown by Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad in this behalf will be adopted for ensuring equitable and overall development.
