JAMMU, June 18: Nipun Sharma of Kathua has been awarded with prestigious Indo German Science Technology Centre(IGSTC)- PhD Industrial Exposure Fellowship (PIEF).
Nipun Sharma, son of Santosh Kumari and Joginder Paul, resident of Ward No. 4 Krishna Colony Kathua, is currently pursuing PhD from IIT Jodhpur. He was awarded this prestigious Fellowship on 13th Foundation Day of IGSTC, recently held at New Delhi.
He was selected as one of the top-10 fellows spread across various research institutions in India and only one from UT of J&K. As a part of this fellowship, he will be carrying out his research work at Fraunhofer Institute of Reliability at Berlin, Germany, fully sponsored by IGSTC. Indo-German Science & Technology Centre (IGSTC), established by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), Government of Germany to encourage young researchers towards applied research.
This programme is aimed at encouraging PhD students/ researchers in S&T with appreciable track record and having aptitude for applied research and technology development. This fellowship is aimed to provide exposure to young Indian researchers at German Industrial ecosystems and applied research Institutions and enhance bilateral partnership between both the countries.
The Foundation Day event was graced by R Madhan, Director, IGSTC, Annapurni Subramaniam, Director, Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) and chief guest for the occasion, S K Varshney Head of International Cooperation Division (ICD) at the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Co-chair of IGSTC and Stephan Grabherr, Charge d’Affaires of the German Embassy in Delhi.
