‘People living peacefully due to internal security’

Srinagar, June 19: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today said that police have successfully dealt with the challenges of terrorism, law and order and modernisation and the force through its internal security management is ensuring that a common citizen lives without fear.
Addressing a gathering on the culmination of Jashn-e-Dal event at SKICC on the banks of Dal lake here, LG Sinha said that the J&K Police have successfully dealt with the challenges of terrorism, law and order and modernization.
“The people of Kashmir are living in a peaceful atmosphere at present due to the successful internal security management,” he said.
The LG said that more than 700 sportsmen took part in the Jashn-e-Dal program.
“Dal lake is not just a lake but pride of people. Those who have taken part in cleaning it should continue their work so that the lake is cleaned to the core,” he said.
The Department Youth Services & Sports has done a commendable job. “Last year, 60 lakh youth participated in various sports related activities in J&K. There is hardly any district where sports activities or a big tournament is not held every day,” he said.
Sinha said the administration has upgraded the sports infrastructure across J&K. “Two international stadiums are in Jammu and Kashmir regions. There are volleyball and football turfs besides multi-purpose sports facilities in every district and panchayat,” he said.
The LG said that Srinagar has got a new identity and there is a discussion going on that Delhi should follow Srinagar model as far as development and restructuring is concerned.
Sinha commended the J&K Police for its valuable contribution in nurturing young sporting talents and providing them opportunity through Civic Action Programmes to realise their full creative potential.
“It is a dream of every athlete to get an opportunity to participate in sporting event, excel in their respective area and become role model for the upcoming generation. The ongoing sports activities give us hope and confidence that our players can produce path-breaking achievements,” he said.
The LG said that vibrant sports culture reflects the image of aspirational J&K, which is determined to build a better future for the young generation. “Our athletes will play a significant role in this task and contribute in building a strong and prosperous Jammu Kashmir,” he added.
Sinha reiterated the commitment of the UT administration to provide world class facilities, coaching and mentoring to the young sporting talents of Jammu Kashmir.
“We are building new sporting future of J&K. It is our collective responsibility to empower our sportspersons, help the hidden talents in the villages so that they can script shining successes in international sporting events,” he added.
The LG made a special mention of sports personalities from J&K for bringing laurels to the nation at the world stage. He also appreciated the efforts of the sports associations and stakeholder departments for the promotion of sports in the UT.
The Lt Governor also called upon the people, especially the youth to discharge their duties and to contribute in Swachhta Abhiyan.
At the closing ceremony, the Lt Governor took the ceremonial salute at an impressive pedal pass and interacted with the players.
Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to Lt Governor; Dilbag Singh, DGP; R K Goyal, ACS, Home Department; RR Swain, Special DG CID; SJM Gillani, ADGP J&K Armed Police, senior officials of Police and Civil Administration, members of water sports association, prominent sports personalities, representatives of various sports clubs and associations and youth in large number attended the felicitation ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion the DGP said the Jashn-e-Dal 2023 was the first event of the current year organised by J&K Police and further informed that in coming days another big event is being held which would definitely get same response from the participants as Jashn-e-dal received.
“I am happy to know that players aspiring for the Indian team selection to participate in the Asian Championship event are practicing here in the valley” the DGP said. He further stated that it is an honour that five players of J&K are representing at international level in the water sports.
The DGP said that the Lt. Governor has been showing a keen interest in promotional and sports activities for youth of Jammu and Kashmir and his presence boosts the morale of Jammu and Kashmir Police as of the participating athletes.
