CS reviews implementation of J&K Police e-governance project

JAMMU, Dec 9: The State Apex Committee for Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) headed by Chief Secretary, Mohammad Iqbal Khandey today reviewed the status of the implementation of CCTNS project in the State.
CCTNS is a mission mode project under the National e-governance Programme aimed at creating a comprehensive and integrated system for enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of policing.
In J&K initially as many as 190 police stations have to be brought under the CCTNS project including 2 police headquarters at Srinagar and Jammu, one SCRB at Jammu, 2- zonal offices, 7- range offices, 25 district police offices and 67 SDPO/ASP offices.
The Committee was informed that till date Rs. 9.60 crores have been allocated to the State by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs of which Rs. 5.78 crore have been expended on various components and activities under the project including digitization of case files, training of 3000 personnel in basic computer and role based training, hardware-software installation besides BSNL connectivity arrangements.
The Chief Secretary called for accelerating the implementation process and removing bottlenecks hindering its timely completion. He said modernization of the state police apparatus is necessary to handle large amount of information and huge volume of records, adding that it will definitely help in the overall improvement of service delivery mechanism of our police force besides bridging gap between public and the police through citizen friendly and alternate modes of communication.
In addition, it was informed that J&K Police is soon going to launch a Citizens Portal whereby citizens can avail as many as nine public services including online registration of public complaints, passport verification, tracking applications etc.
Principal Secretary Home, Suresh Kumar, Commissioner Secretary Information Technology, Bipul Pathak and other officers were present in the meeting.
