Srinagar, June 21: The Department of General Surgery at the Government Medical College Anantnag (GMC) has achieved another milestone with a successful thoracotomy surgery conducted at MMABM Hospital, Janglatmandi Anantnag.
The surgical team, assisted by the Department of Anesthesia, successfully operated on a patient with a rare case of Hydatid Cyst Lung (HCL).
The patient, according to GMC Anantnag, had been experiencing recurrent episodes of cough, fever, and chest pain.
“Upon evaluation by the Department of Radiology, it was discovered that the patient was suffering from a large Hydatid lung disease.”
In this regard, the surgical procedure involved a Right Posterolateral Thoracotomy technique, with the enucleation of the cyst followed by capitonnage was carried out.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Mohammad Amin Rather, a Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeon, assisted by Dr. Manzoor and Dr. Rayees. The anesthesia team was led by Dr. Zafar Malik, Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesia.
“The patient is currently in stable condition during the immediate postoperative period, demonstrating a positive outcome from the surgery,” GMC said.
It is noteworthy that thoracotomy procedures and lung surgeries have recently been initiated at GMC Anantnag. Previously, such patients would have been referred to SKIMS for treatment.
Dr. (Prof) Tariq Syed Qureshi, the Principal of GMC Anantnag, congratulated the surgical team for their remarkable achievement in successfully performing the surgery.
The officials said that the successful operation highlights the growing capabilities of the General Surgery Department at GMC Anantnag in handling complex thoracic procedures, contributing to the improvement of healthcare services for the local community.
