International Yoga Day celebrated with enthusiasm across J&K, Ladakh

JAMMU, June 21: The 9th International Day of Yoga was celebrated today with great fervor and enthusiasm by different Government departments, educational and health institutions besides social organizations across the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retired) and First Lady Neelam Mishra participated in the 9th United Nations International Day of Yoga, which was held at Astroturf Open Stadium at Spituk. Around 1,000 participants took part in the celebration. Addressing the gathering, the LG stated that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the much-needed impetus for the promotion of yoga on a global stage. Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Tashi Gyalson; MP Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal; Executive Councillors, LAHDC Leh Ghulam Mehdi; Advisor, Dr Pawan Kotwal; former Lt Governor of Puducherry, Dr Kiran Bedi and former Director, CBI, Dr DR Karthikeyan were among the guests present on the occasion.
Chief Justice, High Court of J&K and Ladakh, N Kotiswar Singh inaugurated an event in connection with 9th International Yoga Day at High Court Complex, Srinagar. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Justice stressed upon all the participants to include Yoga in their daily life to remain physically and mentally fit besides relieving themselves from stressful life. The event was attended by Registrar General, Registrar Vigilance, Principal Secretary to Chief Justice, Member/Secretary, J&K Legal Services Authority, Registrar Rules, Registrar Judicial Srinagar, Joint Registrar Judicial Srinagar besides other officers and staff of the Srinagar Wing. Likewise, a programme was held at High Court Complex Jammu which was led by Registrar IT, Secretary High Court Legal Services Authority and Joint Registrar Judicial Jammu besides other officers and officials of the Jammu High Court.
Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore along with former ministers Chander Parkash Ganga and Devinder Manyal celebrated International Yoga Day at AIIMS Vijaypur. The event was organized under the guidance of Chairman AIIMS Jammu Dr YK Gupta and Director AIIMS Jammu Dr Shakti Gupta. Speaking on the occasion, Jugal stressed on the health benefits of Yoga while stating that even western countries are adopting yoga in their daily life.
The Day was celebrated at Cluster University of Jammu under the patronage of Dr Bechan Lal, Vice Chancellor. On the occasion, Department of Students Welfare in collaboration with Government MAM College organized a Yoga session for the faculty and students. Dr Jatinder Khajuria, Registrar CLUJ, was chief guest while Dr GS Rakwal was the guest of honor.
The International Day of Yoga was observed at two locations by 7 Battalion Sashastra Seema Bal, Jammu in collaboration with Sector Headquarters (Special Ops) Jammu, in which troops of 7 Battalion and Sector Headquarter (Spl-Ops) Sashastra Seema Bal Jammu participated. Sudhir Verma, D1G SHQ (Spl-Ops) SSB Jammu, Shiv Dayal, Commandant 07 Battalion Sashastra Seema Bal, Sh. Amarjit Singh Deputy Commandant of 07 Battalion Sashastra Seema Bal and Satish Kumar Gupta Deputy Commandant (Spl-Ops) SSB Jammu also participated in the event with Union Minister of State Dr Jitendra Singh at Gulshan Ground, Jammu. Further, Dr Brijesh Kumar, Commandant (Medical) 07 Battalion SSB and Jitendra Joshi, Second-In-Command Sector Headquarters (Special Ops) along with 60 personnel were also participated in a Yoga Day event at Battalion Headquarters, Channi Himmat, Jammu.
The Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Central University of Jammu (CUJ) campus with the themed “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”. Vice-Chancellor Prof Sanjeev Jain was the chief guest of the event. The session on Yoga and Pranayama was conducted by Sandeep Sharma (Yoga instructor) and more than 150 participants attended the session.
Department of Physical Education, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) celebrated the Day at Varsity’s Tulmulla Campus. Highlighting the significance of yoga in tackling the challenges of physical and mental health, Vice-Chancellor, Prof A Ravinder Nath said the yoga rejuvenates the body as new. Earlier, in the run up to today’s event, the Department organized a 3-week yoga camp from June 1 during which sessions were held to impart Yoga training to the participants.
Central Sanskrit University, Shri Ranvir Campus Jammu organized a one day yoga camp in which more than 200 students took active part. Physical teacher Maninder Singh and a third year student Priyamvada Tiwari taught yoga asanas to the teachers, staff and students of the campus. The program was coordinated by Maninder Singh.
The NSS unit of University of Jammu in collaboration with the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education of the Varsity celebrated International Yoga Day. More than 150 volunteers participated in the programme. Prof Naresh Padha, Dean Academic Affairs, was the chief guest of the occasion and Archit Puri (Chairman CII) and Dr Daud Iqbal Baba were guests of honour.
The International Day of Yoga was celebrated with active participation of students and officials at the main and south campuses of University of Kashmir (KU). At main campus, the event was organized by the Office of National Service Scheme (NSS) in collaboration with Directorate of Physical Education and Sports. In her special message, KU Vice-Chancellor Prof Nilofer Khan highlighted the theme of this year’s International Day of Yoga.
SKUAST-Jammu organized a special Yoga Session for staff and students to commemorate the 9th International Yoga Day. Dr BN Tripathi (Vice Chancellor) was the chief guest cum on the occasion. Different yoga asanas were practiced by staff and students. Dr Sushmita Dadich and Dr Sheetal Dogra acted as Yoga instructors. The programme was attended by large number of faculty members and students of Chatha campus.
Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) celebrated the Day with greater fervour at its Yoga Centre. The Yoga Instructors initially briefed about the essence of Yogic exercises and thereafter held a 1-hour practice session with a demonstration of Yoga Asanas. Vice-Chancellor Prof Akbar Masood participated in the event and practiced Yoga along with other participants.
Islamic University of Science and Technology Awantipora Kashmir observed International Day of Yoga in its campus. The event organized by the Directorate of Physical Education & Sports was attended by a large number of students, faculty and staff. Dr Hilal Ahmad, Assistant Director Physical Education IUST introduced the participants to different asanas and explained their benefits.
The International Yoga Day (IYD) was observed at IIM Jammu Canal Road Campus. The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp by chief guest Sahil Mehra, Yoga Guru in the presence of Prof BS Sahay (Director, IIM Jammu). The Yoga session started with the systematic practice of different “Asanas” of standing, sitting, and lying positions. The yogic practice was followed by a Yoga Quiz wherein students, faculty members, and staff participated enthusiastically.
CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine celebrated the ‘International Day of Yoga’ at its main campus. All staff and students of CSIR-IIIM performed the yoga in the lawn of Institute and the whole programme was carried out under the supervision of Dr Zabeer Ahmed, Director CSIR-IIIM. Rajesh Gupta, Administrative Officer of CSIR-IIIM conducted the Yoga session.
The 9th International Yoga day was celebrated by the NSS unit of Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT). The event started at 2:30 pm in the Auditorium of JUIT with the webinar on “Holistic health and Yoga”. Vice-Chancellor of JUIT Prof Rajendra Kumar Sharma encouraged the participants to include yoga as a part of their routine life.
Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences (ASCOMS) & Hospital celebrated the Day in the College campus wherein approximately 200 students and 40 staff members participated. The chief guest on the occasion, Director Principal, Dr Pavan Malhotra while speaking said that Yoga should be performed cutting across the religious barriers as Yoga exercises are beneficial for controlling the mind.
A Yoga camp was organized at KC College of Education in which about 60 BEd trainees participated. The event was attended by resource persons of Yoga Sansthan who explained the participants how to get rid of stress in daily life by following Yoga. Many Yogasans were demonstrated under the guidance of Principal Dr Sanjay Tickoo.
The International Yoga Day was celebrated by the students of Digital Media, English Journalism and Hindi Journalism of Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Jammu in its premises. On the occasion, students performed different forms of Yoga with their faculties and non-teaching staff. The program was organized in association with Bhartiya Yog Sansthan, Jammu and its vice president, IK Raina was the chief guest.
The Department of AYUSH today organized an outreach programme to mark International Yoga Day in RS Pura, Jammu under the guidance of Director Ayush, Dr Mohan Singh and under the supervision of District Ayush officer, Dr Vandana Dogra where free Ayush medicines were distributed among needy people and were made them aware regarding Ayush medicines and its benefits in day to day life.
Govt College of Education Jammu in collaboration with Directorate of Ayush celebrated Yoga Day at Police Ground, Jammu.
Volunteers of NSS Unit and faculty members which included Dr Rajinder Kour, Dr Shubhra Jamwal (NSS PO),  Prof Shalini Rana and Prof Shapia Shameem also attended the session,
Later, college celebrated the day where students performed yoga Asanas. Speaking on the occasion Prof. Aekta Gupta, Principal, emphasized the role of yoga in achieving physical, mental and spiritual well-being.
Govt SPMR College of Commerce also celebrated Yoga Day by participating in celebrations at Jhajjar Kotli. About 50 students of the college participated in the Yoga practice session along with Prof Deepshika Sharma and Prof Apfan Ali NSS POs.
Sacred Heart College of Education Paloura celebrated International Yoga Day with great enthusiasm. The event featured students from the College who performed various yoga Aasans. The Event was graced with the presence of Hari Singh Chib, Managing Director and Uday Bhanu Chib, Director of Sacred Heart College, who encouraged the students to make the practice of yoga a part of their everyday routine.
The students and staff of Sai Shyam College of Education and Public School, Ghou-Manhasan celebrated International Yoga Day in the premises of College. Yoga experts from Bhartiya Yog Sanstha Jammu, Dr Suresh Kumar Gupta and Suman Gupta were the resource persons. All the faculty members and students enthusiastically participated in the event.
Senior BJP leader and former J&K Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta while addressing a gathering on the occasion of International Yoga Day at Baripada in Odisha highlighted the benefits of Yoga and other Indian ancient health sciences. Others who joined the Yoga session were Visheshwar Tudu, Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti and Tribal Affairs and local MP, Bishnu Dass, Cluster Incharge, Kandra Soren Ex MLA and district president, Parkash MLA Baripada, Vijay Kumar Das, General Secretary and Balram Kumar, Yuva Morcha District President.
As part of country-wide events held on 9th International Yoga Day, J&K Bank organised sessions of yoga for its middle and senior management at corporate headquarters in Srinagar and Zonal Office in Jammu. Yoga Coach Shabir Ahmad Dar – founder of Yoga Society of Kashmir – conducted the session at CHQ, while as Yoga Expert from Arogya Bharti, Anil Soni conducted the program at Zonal Office Jammu. The Bank’s General Managers, Deputy General Managers, AGMS and other senior officers attended the yoga session at CHQ, while as, GM & Divisional Head, Zonal Head along with other executives participated in the program at Zonal Office Jammu.
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Sports Complex, Katra today joined the practitioners nation-wide and across the world to mark the celebrations of the 9th International Yoga Day. Chief Executive Officer, SMVDSB Anshul Garg in his message stressed upon all the participants to include Yoga in their daily life to remain physically and mentally fit. The participants performed a series of Yoga Asanas in unison towards better health and wellness. The yoga sessions were also organized at Bhawan, Adhkuwari, Sanjichhat and Bhairon Ghatti.
Department of Youth Services & Sports organized the International Yoga Day on the world’s highest Railway Bridge, Bakkal at Reasi. More than 200 students drawn from nearby schools participated to celebrate the International Yoga Day. The event was coordinated by Ram Krishan Bhat ZPEO Reasi, Vijay Manhas I/c ZPEO Arnas and Activity Inchage DYSS Reasi.
Airports Authority of India celebrated International Yoga Day at Civil Airport, Jammu. On the occasion, a yoga session was organized under the guidance of Dr Konika Bhagat of Health Department, J&K. A large number of AAI staff and CISF personals participated in the session. Sanjeev Kumar Garg (Airport Director), while speaking on the occasion, encouraged the staff to practice Yoga in daily routine.
To mark the occasion, Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Jammu and Kashmir organized various events. The main function was organized by CBC Kathua at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Machedi attended by BDC Billawar, ADC Billawar and other dignitaries. CBC Udhampur also organized an event on Yoga at KV Chenani, CBC Doda at GHSS Assar, CBC Srinagar at GBHS Jawahar Nagar CBC Anantnag at GDC Qazigund and CBC Poonch at GHSS Buffliaz.
A Yog Shivir was organized by 2 JK Boys Battalion of the GDC Udhampur in collaboration with AYUSH department, 2 JK Girls Battalion and NSS Units of the College. The Yog Shivir commenced with Yog Prayer followed by a Yog pledge-taking ceremony by all cadets, NSS volunteers, officials from AYUSH Department and the staff for “Yog for Mission life”.
The NSS Unit in collaboration with the IQAC of GDC Bishnah organized a Yoga Awareness -cum-Yoga Practice Programme. Komal Pathania was the Yoga Demonstrator. She demonstrated various Asanas to the participants. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Manohar Lal, Principal of the College exhorted all to follow one-hour Yog Session daily for keeping themselves physically, mentally and spiritually fit.
The Day was celebrated at Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital Akhnoor with the theme “Har Ghar Angan Yog”. Around 380 students and staff members participated in the event, which was graced by Akhil Sadotra, Sub District Magistrate Akhnoor, as chief guest. The programme began with National Anthem followed by performing Yoga Asanas.
A Yog Session was organized by Yoga Association J&K in collaboration with Brahma Kumaris Yoga Sansthan at Brahma Kumari’s Bhawan, Rehari. Representatives of Yoga Association including Akhil kapahi (president) and Vinod Bhatia (secretary general and other officials of the Association performed Yoga along with a large number of people from Brahma Kumaris’ Sansthan. Patron-in-Chief of Yoga Association BK Sudershan and her associates also graced the event.
Over 1200 people including officers, officials and students drawn from all the zones of district Jammu performed yoga with enthusiasm and fervour as the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) celebrated International Yoga Day with zeal and zest at Khel Gaon Nagrota, near here. The programme was conducted under the overall supervision of Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports (Central), Jitender Mishra in the presence of other officers of the Department.
Department of Chemistry, PSPS Government PG College for Women, Gandhinagar (Jammu) celebrated the International Yoga Day with the enthusiastic participation of students and staff members of Department of Chemistry and Physics. The yoga session was conducted by Prof Manmeet Kour. During the programme, various yoga asanas were performed under the guidance of College Principal Prof Minu Mahajan.
NSS and NCC units, and Yoga Club of GDC Basohli celebrated International Yoga Day by carrying out “Yoga Satra” in the College. Principal Dr Nidhi Kotwal, in her address, discussed the importance of the day and Yoga for a healthy life. Sandeep Sharma, Physical Director of the College and Convener, Yoga Club, started the ‘Satra’ with Surya Namaskar followed by other asanas like Tarh, Vriksha, Trikon, Vak, Mayur, Sheersha, Vajra, Ushta, and Gaumukh.
Sher-e-Kashmir College of Education celebrated the Day in collaboration with Indian Science Congress Association. Narinder Kour (chairperson of the College) presided over the function. Dr Inderjeet Kour (Principal), Yoga expert Sarla Tripathi, Professor JS Tara and Veena Sharma (yoga demonstrator) spoke on the occasion. Students performed various yog asannas under the guidance of yoga expert Sarla Tripathi.
To commemorate International Yoga Day, GDC Ramnagar conducted various activities to involve students in Yoga practices and healthy wellbeing. The whole programme was conducted under the patronage of Dr Bhavnaish Chand (Principal GDC Ramnagar). A Yoga session was conducted on the theme ‘Humanity for Yoga’. The resource person of the day was Dr Om Prakash, HoD Sanskrit.
The Day was celebrated with enthusiasm in the campus of GDC Banihal. On the occasion, NSS volunteers, students and staff members performed various “Aasanas” of yoga. In her address, Principal Dr Shalini Sharma deliberated that yoga is beneficial for both mind and soul and it should be included in our daily routine in true letter and spirit. The event was jointly organized by NSS Unit and Department of Physical Education under the guidance of the College Principal.
GDC Chenani organized a week-long activities on Yoga. Principal, Dr Anil Khajuria inaugurated the programme and addressed the participants on the importance of yoga practice in our life. The students participated in various activities with full enthusiasm and zeal. In Yoga Week, various activities, events, yoga sessions and workshops were conducted to promote the practice of Yoga among students.
NSS and NCC units of GGM Science College, Jammu celebrated the Day by organizing an event under the guidance of Principal Prof Rajesh Gupta. Yoga Instructors YC Thapar and Renu Thapar conducted the whole Yoga session for more than 50 NCC cadets and NSS Volunteers, who performed different types of Asanas.
GDC Mahanpur celebrated International Yoga Day by organizing a Yoga session in the Institute under the guidance of Principal Dr Sangeeta Sudan. The yoga session was supervised by Dr Balbinder Singh Physical Director. He demonstrated various Yoga Asanas like Bhujangasana, Halosana, Dhanurasana, Trikonasana etc.
A Yoga day programme titled ‘Har Ghar Dhyan’ was organized by GDC Samba in collaboration with Art of Living Centre, Jammu. Ravinder Mansotra, Senior Teacher, Art of Living, Jammu (Resource Person) exhorted the faculty and students on the immense benefits of practicing Yoga. Prof (Dr) Twinkle Suri, Principal of the College, threw light on the theme of International Yoga Day.
Principal Secretary School Education Alok Kumar, attended the celebrations of the 9th International Yoga Day at Wave Mall Jammu. The event was organized by the Directorate of Samagra Shiksha, J&K in collaboration with the 92.7 Big FM and Bhartiya Yog Sansthan, where hundreds of Students, teacher and locals participated. The event started with the lighting of Lamp and Sarswati Vandhna, followed by the Yog Asanas.
The NSS Unit of GDC Vijaypur organized a two-day workshop on International Yoga Day. On day one of the workshop, students shared their photographs and videos on various Asans. On day two, Dr Shittal Sharma, convener NSS briefed the students about importance of Yoga. The workshop was conducted under the guidance of Dr Vandana Gupta, Principal of the College.
GDC Khour celebrated International Day of Yoga wherein Yoga session was organized in the College. NCC cadets and NSS volunteers along with Principal of the College and staff participated in the Yoga sessions. Principal Dr TK Sharma said that aim of the activity was to create awareness about physical, mental and spiritual benefits of Yoga.
NSS and NCC units in collaboration Eco Club, Road Safety Club and Red Ribbon Club of GDC Sunderbani celebrated the Day and a series of activities were organized in the College in which students and staff performed Yoga Asans. Pledge ceremony, slogan writing and poster making competition were also organized. The whole event was organized under supervision of Principal of the College, Prof Minnie Sharma.
NSS unit and Department of Physical Education and Sports, GDC Chatroo in collaboration with Indian Army 11RR Chatroo organized Yoga session to celebrate International Yoga Day. The event was based on the theme ‘Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’. It was organized under the guidance and patronage of Dr Ved Kumar, Principal of the College, Major Bhuwan Thapa and Sub Maj Jagmal Singh from 11RR Chatroo were also present on the occasion.
GDC Darhal organized a three-day Yoga Mahotsav. More than 50 NSS volunteers of the College including faculty members participated in the event. Activities like poster making, essay writing and quiz competition based on Yoga were also organized. The event was organized under the guidance of Prof Mussaraf Hussain Shah, Principal of the College.
NSS Units of Government College for Women, Parade Ground Jammu in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, NCC Unit and Department of Sanskrit organized a 3-day workshop on the occasion of International Day of Yoga under the guidance of NSS Programme Officers of the College Dr Gurpreet Kour, Dr Mohd Majeed and Dr Parvaiz Ahmad. Principal of the College, Dr SP Saraswat appreciated the efforts of Prime Minister in making Yoga Day an international event.
Department of Physical Education and Sports of GDC Thannamandi in collaboration with NSS and NCC Units of the College celebrated International Yoga Day with enthusiasm and zeal. A series of activities including open space Yoga session where organized under the guidance of Dr Mohd Ibrahim (Physical Director), Prof Mohammad Shoket, NSS Programme Officer and Dr Altaf Ahmed (ANO, NCC Unit) GDC Thannamandi. Principal Prof (Dr) Farooq Ahmed encouraged the participants.
The NSS Unit of GDC Bani organized a pledge taking ceremony and Yoga camp to celebrate International Yoga Day. The whole programme was organized under the supervision of Prof (Dr) Manisha Sarup Kohli, Principal GDC Bani. NSS volunteers and students of the College took pledge and practiced different Asanas.
NCC (SD/SW) and NSS Units of Government PG College Rajouri celebrated International Yoga Day under the patronage of Principal of the College, Prof (Dr) Shamim Ahmed Azad. Major Tanveer Ahmed, NCC Officer highlighted the role of Yoga in present era. Rakesh Puri, Director, Physical Education helped the students in performing Yoga Asanas.
The Day was celebrated at GDC Dudu Basantgarh under the theme ‘Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. Staff and students of the College took part in Yoga session and the event was conducted under the guidance of Principal Prof Anirudh Sharma who while addressing the students emphasized on the importance of Yoga in our physical, mental and spiritual well being.
NSS unit of GDC Jourian organized a reel making event on the occasion of International Yoga Day. The programme was conducted in collaboration with IQAC, Activity and Cultural Affairs Committee and Eco and Health Club. Principal of the College, Dr Anuradha Pandoh stressed upon the importance of Yoga for physical and mental health.
The NSS Units, NCC Wings and Physical Education and Sports Department of GDC Kathua celebrated International Day of Yoga. An expert Yoga teacher briefed about the essence of Yogic exercises. The whole event was organized under the guidance of Principal of the College, Prof Seema Mir and under the guidance of NSS Program Officers, Prof Manmohan Singh and other officers.
International Yoga Day was celebrated by NSS Unit, NCC and Sports Department of GDCW Kathua in collaboration with District AYUSH Department and District Administration. Yoga session started with welcome address of chief guest Dr Rakesh Minhas, Deputy Commissioner Kathua. NSS volunteers participated with enthusiasm and dedication.
GDC Sidhra organized a series of activities to celebrate International Yoga Day. NSS Unit of the College organized a series of activities to commemorate International Day of Yoga 2023. These activities included awareness lecture on ‘Importance of Yoga’ wherein Principal of the College, Dr BB Anand deliberated on the significance of Yoga. An awareness rally on Yoga was also organized in the vicinity of the College.
Chenab College of Education celebrated International Yoga Day to raise awareness about this ancient practice. The event started with welcome address by Principal of the College, Dr Sunita K Sharma explaining the importance of Yoga in the life of youngsters. After this, SK Dubey, Yoga expert started Yoga demonstrations and Asanas were performed by the students and the teachers.
NCC unit of Dogra Degree College in collaboration with NSS Unit organized a session on ‘International Yoga Day’. The session was briefed by Sonia Sawhney and Siddhant Sawhney, Yoga practitioners who educated the students about the importance of Yoga for their health and well being. Principal of the College Dr Bela Thakur suggested that International Yoga Day is about integrating body, mind and soul. The session was attended by the Dr Samar Dev Singh Charak (Secretary, Dogra Educational Trust), Prof Darshana Sharma and others.
IQAC and NSS unit of Dogra College of Education organized Yoga Session on the occasion of International Yoga Day in collaboration with Bhartiya Yog Sansthan. Yoga Session started with welcome address by Shivangi Dhrora, Lecturer. The resource persons on the occasion were Girdhari Lal, president, Puran Chand, Yoga Instructor and Jagat Ram, Yoga Teacher from Bhartiya Yog Sansthan Jammu.
The NSS Unit and Physical Education Department of GDC Marheen celebrated International Yoga Day by organizing series of activities like poster making. The programme was organized under the patronage of Principal of the College, Prof (Dr) Anupama Gupta. A large number of students participated in the event.
NSS Unit of GCW Bhagwati Nagar celebrated International Yoga Day under the guidance of Principal of the College, Dr Meeru Abrol who while speaking on the occasion deliberated that Yoga is not just a physical exercise but a way of life that encompasses physical postures (Asans), breathing techniques (Pranayama), meditation and ethical principles.
The NSS Unit and Department of Physical Education and Sports of GDC Marh celebrated International Yoga Day by organizing series of activities under the guidance of Prof Dr Rakesh Kumar Koul, Principal GDC Marh. Various Yoga Asans were performed by the students, faculty, staff and Principal.
GDC Jindrah celebrated International Yoga Day under the guidance of Principal of the College, Prof Renu Sehgal and students along with teaching and non-teaching staff participated enthusiastically. Dr Vikesh Kumar elaborated on importance of Yoga for health and wellness.
Under the guidance of Principal Dr Sujata Slathia, GDC Ghagwal celebrated International Yoga Day. NSS volunteers participated in a mega Yoga event organized on this occasion. Staff of Accidental Hospital, Ghagwal also collaborated and about 40 students took the advantage of refreshing sessions of Yoga.
GDC Khaltse in Leh collaborated with administration of sub-division Khaltse to celebrate International Yoga Day. Sub Divisional Magistrate, Khaltse, Sohail Ahmad; Tehsildar Khaltse, Tanveer Ahmad; HODs of all the departments, staff and students of Government Degree College Khaltse attended the event. Yoga Instructor, Sonam Chosphail, who is also Director Physical Education and Sports supervised the event in which various Asanas and Pranayamas were performed.
GDC Kalakote celebrated the International Yoga Day and organized a two-day Yoga camp in which various Asanas were performed by the students and faculty members. Principal of the College, Prof (Dr) Seema Arora while speaking on the occasion briefed about the immense need of Yoga in our lives and motivated the participants to adopt Yoga in daily routine.
International Day of Yoga was celebrated at Government Polytechnic Jammu with enthusiasm. Principal of the Polytechnic, Arun Bangotra made the students aware about benefits of Yoga. He stressed upon the students to do Yoga Asans and Pranayamas for balance and all-round development.
Jammu Institute of Ayurveda and Research (JIAR) celebrated International Day of Yoga with tagline ‘Har Ghar Angan Yog’ at two places-at JIAR campus and at a function organized by Directorate of AYUSH, J&K at Gulshan Ground Jammu. The chief guest was Prof Madan Mohan Jha, Director, Central Sanskrit University, Jammu and guest of honour was Mahavir Gupta, State Patron, Arogya Bharti J&K.
International Yoga Day was celebrated at GMC Udhampur under the leadership of Principal, Dr Mrityunjay and Dr Rakesh Sharma, Prof & Head, Department of ENT was also present. A large number of faculty members and staff of the GMC performed many physical exercises such as breathing, postures and mental exercises like meditation.
District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Budgam, in collaboration with the Department of Ayush organized a grand event to commemorate International Yoga Day. The event took place at the Court complex in Budgam and witnessed the enthusiastic participation of Chairman of DLSA Budgam Khalil Ahmad Choudhary, along with Judicial Officers, Court Staff, penal lawyers, para-legal volunteers, and staff members of DLSA Budgam. Under the expert guidance of certified yoga instructors, the attendees were led through a series of invigorating yoga asanas, breathing exercises, and meditation techniques.
Excise Department celebrated International Yoga Day under the supervision of Excise Commissioner, Pankaj Kumar Sharma and Deputy Excise Commissioner, Kusum Sharma at Excise Training Institute Nagrota Jammu. Speaking on the occasion Deputy Excise Commissioner Kusum Sharma laid stress on healthy lifestyle and importance of Yoga.
The serene and picturesque location of Jhajjar Kotli witnessed a grand celebration of the 9th International Yoga Day, organized jointly by the Department of Tourism J&K, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University and J&K Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages under the guidance of Secretary Tourism Department Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah and Director Tourism Jammu Vivekanand Rai The highlight of the event was a series of yoga sessions led by expert yoga practitioners. On the occasion, stalls were also set up by various departments to showcase various aspects of yoga, including its health benefits, historical and cultural significance.
A grand event took place at Vishwa Yog Samsthaan (World Yog Institute) Ashram in the picturesque location of Hari Ki Pauri, Bagh e Bahu. The event, organized by the world renowned Yog Guru Karan, Chairman of Vishwa Yog Samsthaan in collaboration with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Hospitals, Katra, Jammu and Directorate of AYUSH, saw the enthusiastic participation of numerous yoga enthusiasts, along with other dignitaries. The chief guest for the event was Rajinder Sharma (Mayor of Jammu). The event showcased a wide array of yoga activities, ranging from traditional asanas to pranayama and meditation sessions.
Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council organized a Yoga Camp to celebrate International Yoga Day at Basketball Court of Maulana Azad (MAM) Stadium in Jammu city. Deputy Mayor Jammu, Baldev Singh Billawaria was the chief guest while former MLC Vikram Randhawa and president of Traders Federation Ware House-Nehru Market Deepak Gupta were present as special guests. More than 400 players, parents and every section of the society performed yoga together in the yoga camp.
An impressive Yoga session was held at HexaMed Diagnostics and Specialty Clinics, Channi Himmat in which Dr Shryans Kumar Jain (president, Vichaar Kranti Manch and State Yoga Commissioner) along with staff of the HexaMed and prominent personalities of the vicinity participated. COO of HexaMed Sumit Jaiswal also participated in the Session.
NHPC Regional Office, Jammu organized a Yoga Camp in the office premises at Narwal. All the officers and employee enthusiastically participated in the Camp under the guidance of a trained yoga instructor. The program under the guidance of Bikram Singh, ED, RO, Jammu started with the lighting of the lamp by P Sathyamurthi, General Manager (HR), SK Jena, General Manager (Finance), Rajnish Gunjan, DGM (Finance) and senior officials. Various yoga asana were practiced by the participants.
The 9th International Day for Yoga was celebrated with great enthusiasm across district Kishtwar. The main event was organized by the Ayush Department Kishtwar in collaboration with the District Administration, Department of Youth Services and Sports, Kishtwar Development Authority, Indian Army, and paramilitary forces at Chowgan Ground. Over 2,000 enthusiastic participants from diverse backgrounds actively participated in the event.The event was graced by DC Kishtwar Dr Devansh Yadav, SSP Kishtwar Khalil Ahmed Poswal and other dignitaries.
The Day was celebrated with zeal across Udhampur district. A yoga camp was organized by the Directorate of AYUSH at ancient Krimchi Temple in which DDC Chairperson, Udhampur, Lal Chand participated. The Day was also celebrated at Shahid Bhagat Singh Park Udhampur, where Dr Rajinder Kumar Nagar was the chief guest. The Day was celebrated by Northern Command and over 1,75,000 soldiers and 75,000 families participated in the Yoga sessions with great zeal and enthusiasm. Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi, GOC-in-C, Northern Command also participated in the event organized at Udhampur. A Yoga camp was also organized at Udhampur in which officers, ladies and other ranks of Udhampur Military Station participated.
The International Yoga Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervor at the picturesque Jae Valley in Bhaderwah by the district Administration in collaboration with District Ayush Authorities, Rural Development Department, School Education and private stakeholders in tourism. The event witnessed the participation of more than 4000 locals and tourists. Renowned artist KK Gandhi showcased his talent by capturing and putting on canvas the beauty of Jae in his painting. The programme was managed by ADC Doda Chowdhary Dil Mir along with officers of different departments.
Sports Authority of India Training centre Jammu celebrated the Day in collaboration with J&K Sports Council in which all staff, coaches and about 150 athletes of various games participated. A yoga session was organized under the supervision of a yoga expert who later on spoke about the advantages of Yoga in day to day life. Demonstration of Suryanamaskar and various Asanas were given to all participants by Yoga student.
State Bank of India marked the occasion of the International Day of Yoga at its Local Head Office in Sector 17, Chandigarh. Ajay Kumar Jha, General Manager of SBI Chandigarh Circle, inaugurated the event with an address to the participants. Speaking on the occasion, Jha expressed that the observance of this day not only enhances our immunity but also contributes to mental well-being.
The Confederation of Indian Industry organized a Yoga Camp in collaboration with the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu. The event was held at the University of Jammu to create awareness about the indispensable benefits of Yoga and its impact on the lives of people. The event was well attended by students and young people of Jammu City.
Celebrating International Yoga Day, Radio Mirchi 98.3 Jammu organized a yet another mega event ‘Mirchi Yoga se Hoga – Season 3’ in association with Bhartiya Yog Sansthan and AM Hyundai Jammu at Bhartiya Yog Sansthan Kendra, Gol Gujral Jammu. More than 500 people of different age groups participating in the activity. The Yoga sessions were led by Instructors of Bhartiya Yog Sansthan who seamlessly taught the various Yoga Asanas to the huge gathering. Ashok Kumar Sharma, Director School Education graced the event as chief guest.
To mark the occasion, a CVPPPL Corporate Office Jammu organized an event at Panch Mandir Campus, Channi Himmat, Jammu in which 70 employees and their family members participated. MD CVPPPL Hasan Nadeem and Ursila Nadeem along with employees and their families performed Yog Asanas and Pranayaam.
Ramakrishna Mission, Jammu organized a Yoga Session in its premises. Nearly 100 people participated in Yoga performance under the guidance of SriInder Krishna Raina and Dharmaveer Gupta of Bharatiya Yoga Sansthan, Jammu. The participants performed different postures for more than an hour. The chief guest for the function was Rajinder Sharma (Mayor Jammu).
In connection with International Yoga Day, J&K Police organized Yoga programmes at different Police establishments in which Police personnel and recruits participated. Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur, Subsidiary Training Centre (STC) Talwara and Police Technical Training Institute (PTTI) Vijaypur, organized special Yoga programmes in order to aware the Police staff and trainees regarding the benefits of the Yoga exercises. At PTTI Vijaypur, Shiv Kumar, SSP, Principal of the Institute advised the participants to make yoga as a habit in their daily life to keep them fit and healthy. The Yoga Day programmes were also organized at DPL Anantnag, DPL Baramulla, District Police Line Ground, Gandhi Nagar (Jammu), besides J&K Police Public Schools at Srinagar, Jammu, Baramulla, Kupwara and Doda.
IASOWA J&K celebrated the Day at Dachigam National Park under the guidance of the president IASOWA J&K, Dr Amita Mehta. During the celebrations, Ayush team gave details of how the particular yoga mudras are beneficial to treat particular diseases and highlighted its role in preventive health care.
To celebrate International Day of Yoga, Arun Sharma Sports and Social Welfare Trust (ASSSWT) organized special Yoga and guidance session in collaboration with Sanatan Dharam Sabha at S D Sabha School campus, Old Rehari, here today. The event, attended by participants from all age groups, begun with Yoga Asana under the guidance of experts and culminated with guidance session by experienced and social activist, Parshotam Dadeechi (president, Sanatan Dharam Sabha, J&K), who graced the occasion as special guest.
A yoga session was organized at the newly established Holy Knowledge Center Champaranya in village Sail Kodi Ver situated near Mansar Lake, under the guidance of Champasut Shri Gangadhar. The devotees practiced yoga in the 2-hour Yoga session.
The 84th Battalion of Central Reserve Police Force celebrated International Day of Yoga at Battalion Headquarters, FCI Chatha, Jammu. More than 100 personnel, including officers and other ranks participated in the program. N Ranbir Singh, Commandant of the Battalion highlighted that Yoga is an ancient Indian practice that helps a person not only in maintaining physical and mental health but also spiritual wellbeing.
Army Public School Damana also celebrated the ninth edition of International Day of Yoga day in the school premises under the theme ‘Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ which encapsulates Yoga for the welfare of all- ‘One World, One Family, One Future’. BJP Talab Tillo Mandal led by Keshav Chopra organized a programme on Yoga Day in Zee School, Anand Nagar (Bohri), where a large number of people and party workers participated. Nat Manch Jammu organized a Yoga session in which its founder president and BJP leader Tarun Sharma and school children participated. They performed different Yoga Asanas like Pranayam, Kapalbhati and Pawanmuktasana.
In order to raise awareness about the importance of Yoga, the ancient Indian practice for holistic well being of body and mind, Fire and Fury Corps in collaboration with the Ministry of Ayush in Ladakh held a joint yoga session on the banks of Pangong Tso. Over 500 soldiers of the Fire and Fury Corps participated in the session.
Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages under the guidance of Bharat Singh (its secretary) conducted a yoga class. Dr Sudhir Mahajan, SDI and In-charge, Divisional office Jammu, said that Yoga is an ancient practice that is used to keep one’s mind healthy and body fit, not only is the physical body benefit from the posture of yoga but it also helps in peace and calmness.
Natrang, under its pioneering initiatives, introduced the magnificent art of Yoga among the children in the Natrang Children Theater Camp-2023 to commemorate International Yoga Day. The demonstration and lectures classes were conducted by highly qualified and competent Dr Neelam Khajuria at Natrang Studio. Earlier, Balwant Thakur underlining the importance of yoga in theater said that it is one of the subjects taught in all the professional theater institutions across the country.
The Unique International Public School (UIPS) celebrated Yoga day with much energy and enthusiasm. The students and staff members performed various Asanas of yoga like Pranayam and Suryanamaskar. Kendriya Vidyalaya, Jammu Cantt celebrated the Day under the guidance of Principal, Bhushan Kumar. The students, teaching and non-teaching staff of the School attended the event. Different exercises and Yoga asanas were performed by teachers and students during the session.
National Development Organization (NDO) Rajouri celebrated Yoga day in its headquarters at Rajouri in collaboration with Public Technocrats Society, Jammu. Chairman of the organization Zulfkar Malik and a large number of people including students participated. Baitulla Malik, (Sarpanch Chowkian-C, Dharal Malkain) was the chief guest on this occasion.
Management, staff and NCC cadets of Rich Harvest School celebrated Yoga Day in school premises. Anita Bhatia, head of the school briefed the participants about the benefits of Yoga.
Sanatan Dharam Higher Secondary School (Kanya Vidyalaya) Jullaka Mohalla, Jammu celebrated the Day in school premises. The programme started with Sarswati Vandana by the students. Kuldeep Anand (president), Sat Pal Singh (vice president), ML Vidyarthi (secretary) and Murari Lal (treasurer) were present on the occasion and they participated in a yoga session along with students and school staff members.
Government Higher Secondary School, Pouni organized a programme on International Yoga day in which a large number of students and staff members including NCC cadets participated under the supervision of Principal SP Khajuria. Tehsildar Pouni Naresh Kumar was the chief guest on the occasion. Physical Education teacher, Ashok Kumar performed various Asanas of yoga along with NCC cadets, students, civil society members and also made them aware about the health benefits of yoga.
Ayush Health and Wellness Centre Battal Ballian celebrated the 9th International Day of Yoga in presence of Sarpanch Battal Sunita Devi, Panch Sham Lal Sharma, and prominent citizens of the area. The Yoga session was conducted by Aatish Bhagat, Yoga Instructor of the Centre.
The Day was also celebrated in the premises of Higher Secondary School, Chiralla under the guidance of Hem Raj Chalotra, the Principal of the Institution. On International Yoga Day, students of Brahmrishi Bawra Shanti Vidya Peeth School practiced a wide array of yoga activities, ranging from traditional asanas to pranayama and meditation sessions under the guidance of Chinmayi Jyothi Ji Maharaj.
Yoga Association J&K conducted a Yoga session at Om Shanti meditation center, Braham Kumari Ashram, Jammu. Ahil Kapahi (president, Yoga Association J&K) while, sharing his views said, “If you practice yoga every day, then we can free ourselves from all diseases.”
Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Jammu organized a programme on International Yoga day in which officers and jawans from different sectors participated in large number. The programme was organized under the leadership of Naresh Kumar Yadav, Director General of Police (DIG-GC), CRPF, Jammu. Dr Biram Singh, IG J&K Zone, TN Kuntia DIG, J&K Zone among various senior officers were part of the programme.
The NGO, Mahavir International Jammu celebrated International Yoga Day to spread awareness regarding breast cancer in association with Narayna Superspeciality Hospital Katra. While speaking on the occasion, members of the NGO– Rajni Jain, Reecha Jain and Leena Jain stressed upon the women for early detection of cancer.
The Yoga Day was observed with full enthusiasm on the theme ‘Humanity’ under the joint supervision of JS Tandon, ZPEO Mendhar and Mir Alam PEL HSS Boys Mendhar. Jahangir Khan SDM Mendhar was the chief guest on the occasion. Students from different schools of zone Mendhar participated and performed different yoga asanas.
The Day was celebrated in GHSS Latti (Udhampur) under the guidance of Principal Puran Singh Manhas. Tehsildar Latti Paramjeet Singh was the chief guest on the occasion. Staff and students of the School besides members of the Panchayat actively participated in the programme.
Similarly, International Day of Yoga was celebrated at Government Higher Secondary School, Khaltse; Government High School, Lingshed; Government Middle School, Photoksar and Community Health Centre, Khaltse.
Students, their parents and the staff member of KV No. 1 Jammu joined online V/s offline Yoga session from 8:30 am to 9:30 am under the guidance of Sushma Gupta, Yoga expert. The programme started with welcome of chief guests Assistant Commissioner KVS Jammu region GS Mehta, Assistant Commissioner Jammu region, Islam Khan and Assistant Commissioner KVS Jammu region, Anil Kumar by the Principal, Amit Walter. It was followed by 45 minutes Yoga session and prayer.
IWMP, J&K implementing WDC component of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojna celebrated International Yoga Day at Badheri Panchayat in Samba. Dr Bharat Bhushan, CEO IWMP, Rajinder Singh, Additional District Development Commissioner, Samba, Sunil Kumar, Project Manager, IWMP Samba, Danish Zari DLTE, Sarpanch Suneel Kumari, PRIs, Watershed Committee members and villagers participated in Yoga session conducted by Yoga expert Aman Sambyal from Youth Services and Sports Department.
The Central Government Pensioners Association Jammu celebrated International Yoga Day. A Yoga session was organized for the Pensioners at a Day Care Centre being run by the Association at Exhibition Ground Jammu. Association president, Kuldeep Khoda presided over the function and said that Yoga has united the nation for a healthy mind and spiritualism.
Yogoda Satsanga Dhyana Kendra, Udheywala, Jammu celebrated International Day of Yoga. On this occasion a guided meditation, led by Sanjay Anand, was held. Breathing techniques as taught by Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda were practiced.
On International Yoga Day, Rekha Mahajan, district president BJP Jammu South said that Yoga serves as a platform to promote holistic approach to physical, mental and spiritual well-being. She was speaking at a programme organized at Zorawar Singh Park in Trikuta Nagar Mandal of District Jammu South. Former MLC Charanjit Singh Khalsa, District Prabhari Ayodhya Gupta, vice president BJP J&K, Anuradha Charak and others were also present.
International Yoga Day was celebrated by IRP 11th Battalion in collaboration with Department of AYUSH, Anantnag. Rayees Mohd Bhat, DIG SKR Anantnag was the chief guest on this occasion. Sandeep Mehta SSP Commandant IRP 11th Bn, Ashish Mishra, SSP Anantnag and others were also present on the occasion.
Staff and students of Government High School Pranoo came together to celebrate International Day of Yoga in collaboration with Central Bureau of Communication. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of about 200 students. Principal, staff, Sub Divisional Magistrate of Assar, Lekh Raj and other officials from Assar sub-division also participated. The occasion was organized under the supervision of SK Chandail, Principal of GHSS Assar.
