JAMMU, Dec 10: Commissioner of Income Tax, J&K A K Thatai today had a meeting with his officers of the rank of Joint Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and Income Tax Officers stationed at Jammu.
He reviewed performances of the ranges in so far as mitigating public grievances, processing of returns and also timely issue of refunds etc. Necessary instructions were given to all the Assessing Officers to complete this work in a time bound manner. He also monitored the trend of Advance Tax being paid by the top assesses of J&K. While top 100 cases of this charge are being monitored by the Commissioner himself, he also called upon the range Joint Commissioners and the Assessing Officers to match the payment of taxes and especially take action in those cases where the payment of Advance Tax has fallen short. He also made an appeal to the tax payers at large to pay their Advance Tax correctly and on time.
It may be mentioned that the 3rd installment for the corporate assesses and 2nd installment for other tax payers is falling due on 15.12.2013. On earlier occasions also, the Commissioner had issued statement and advisory to the tax payers that the Income Tax Department is monitoring all the high value transactions and big spends by the persons and these items are being matched with the Income Tax returns filed by them.
It has been emphasised that the under hand transactions in big land deals for evasion of capital tax gain is also being monitored closely by the department. Other professionals like doctors, architects, contractors who are not paying their tax as per the income are also on the radar of the Income Tax Department.
The Commissioner has appealed to all the assesses to pay their Advance Tax properly to avoid any penal action in the shape of interest and penalty and also other stern actions like surveys and searches which may be carried out on such defaulters.
