Residents protest against sale of illicit liquor

KATHUA, June 24: The residents of village Jarai held a protest demonstration against the sale of illicit liquor in the village.  The residents including women and children assembled in front of SSP Office, Kathua and held a strong protest.
They protestors raising slogans against illicit liquor mafia active in village, said they were inducing the youth in drugs addiction. A woman, Veena Devi with her three minor children joined the protest and said that her husband had died due to consuming the illicit liquor. She said some more people were also on death bed after consuming the illicit liquor.
She said that when women of village opposed the sale of liquor in village earlier, the illicit liquor mafia supported by some influential people attacked them and forced them to leave the illicit liquor sale point.
A local person Karter Singh said that no one from Excise and Taxation Department or Police Department takes action against this illegal practice. They appealed the SSP Kathua to immediately stop sale of illicit liquor and put the people involved in its sale behind the bars. They also submitted a memorandum to SSP Kathua in this connection.
