JAMMU, June 20: Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Jammu projected the burning issues of the members from trade and industry in an interactive session organized here today.
Regional Director of the ESI, Rattan Kumar, Dy Director ESI Rakesh Chouhan and other senior officials from the Directorate were accorded warm welcome by the Executive body of the Chamber, led by Y V Gupta, its president.
While speaking on the occasion, the Chamber president said that due to lack of awareness among the members of the business community about the applicability of the ESI Act, the said Act be kept in abeyance for at least five years and awareness programme be launched for the benefit of the trading community, he maintained.
Mr Sharma further said that the department should not issue warrants against the members of business community coming under ESI Act. This type of punishment is for the criminals and not for the tax payers. During the interaction the members raised their concern about the harassment by the visiting inspectors.
Secretary general CCI Arun Gupta urged upon the Regional Director to withdraw the cases pending in different courts against the traders by introducing one time settlement scheme and to waive off the penal interest and penalty. He said that members of the community should not be harassed.
The Regional Director gave patient hearing and assured that corrective steps would be taken to remove the bottlenecks of the Act. He said ESI is a multi-dimensional security system tailored to provide socio economic protection to the employees besides full medical care for self and dependents of the insured persons.
CCI senior vice president Sham Lal Langar, secretary Deepak Aggarwal, and Bharat Bhushan Gupta treasurer were also present.
