Non teaching employees suspend ‘Work to Rule’

JAMMU, June 20: Bringing respite for Jammu University (JU) and Kashmir University (KU) administration from delay in announcement of results, revaluation of papers, besides hampering other official work, non teaching employees of Jammu University and Kashmir University suspended their “Work to Rule”.
After the negotiation between Jammu Varsity authorities and non-teaching employees, the latter suspended their “Work to Rule”, bringing respite for both JU and KU administrations from mounting pressure of delay in announcement of results, revaluation of papers and other official work.
Sources said that, members of Jammu University Non-Teaching Employees Association (JUNTEU), led by its president, Sunil Sahi, called on Vice Chancellor, Prof Mohan Pal Singh Ishar, during which the members apprised Vice Chancellor, about their long pending 26 demands including, promotion of section officer to assistant registrar desk, re-designation of senior technical staff to technical officers and assistant technical officers and promotion of section officers to assistant registrar, besides other demands.
“Vice chancellor assured the union that their demands, which are in his hand, will be redressed in the best possible time, and the rest, he will take up with the Chancellor and Financial Advisor”, sources added.
Earlier, non teaching employees unions had refused to perform their duties after office timing, after it failed to reach an agreement on their demands with University administration resulting in delay in announcement of results, revaluation of papers and other official work.
According to sources all the non-teaching employees had decided not to perform their overtime duties instead to perform their job as per the “Work to Rule” from 9:30 to 5 pm.
“Due to “Work to Rule” formula adopted by the non-teaching employees, Varsity administration had come under various problems, including delay in rechecking and re-evaluation of papers besides hampering functioning of the University thereby affecting the students community at large”, sources said.
Talking to Excelsior, president, Jammu University Non-Teaching Employees Association (JUNTEU), Sunil Sahi, said that University administration has assured them that their demands lying before the Vice Chancellor of the University, will be redressed in the shortest possible time.
He said that on the assurance of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Mohan Pal Singh Ishar, both JUNTEU and KUNTEU suspended “Work to Rule”. He added that this decision was taken after holding deliberations with their counterparts from University of Kashmir at Srinagar.
To a question, whether they are in the favour of strike in future if their demands were not redressed, Sahi said that the JUNTEU and KUNTEU and its comrades are not in the favour of strike as they are the well-wishers of the Universities. He said that they have given time to the varsities administration for redressal of their demands.
“If demands projected before Vice Chancellor, are not redressed, they will decide further course of action, whether to resume their “work to rule” or not”, Sahi added.
When contacted, Registrar, Jammu University, Prof Naresh Padha, told that the demands projected by JUNTEU will be redressed at the earliest and they have forwarded all their demands to the higher-ups and are also following them, so that the same get redressed in the time bound frame.
He said that their two demands pertaining to re-designation of senior technical staff to technical officers and assistant technical officers and promotion of section officers to assistant registrar, have been redressed by the JU administration and for the rest of the demands, they will take up with the Chancellor and Financial Advisor, for early conclusion.
