JAMMU, June 27: J&K chief of National Democratic Party Indian (NDPI), Rajesh Gupta has expressed deep concern regarding rising number of road accidents.
In a statement handout, Gupta specifically referred to the recent Panama Chowk accident in which an old lady lost her life due to negligent driving by matador driver who is still at large.
Expressing shock and anguish, Gupta urged the authorities to implement a preventive strategy to curb accidents rather than relying solely on post-accident measures.
He strongly condemned the excessive speed of matadors whose drivers are main culprits of road accidents in Jammu and the traffic cops who take bribe on monthly basis from these drivers are also equally responsible.
Gupta urged Lt. Governor, Manoj Sinha to deal strictly with such drivers and traffic cops who are spoiling the reputation of Traffic Police.
He said that a number of lives have been lost and many people have suffered severe injuries due to road accidents.
Gupta said that a human life is more valuable than anything else.
He claimed that J&K has witnessed a significant number of fatalities last year due to road accidents, marking the highest toll in a decade.
