Srinagar, June 27 : An Al-Badr militant was killed in an encounter in Hawoora village in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district today.

A police spokesman said that acting on a specific input regarding the presence of a militant in village Hawoora area of Kulgam, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, Ist RR of Army and CRPF.
“During the search operation, as the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militant fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party, in which one policeman was injured who shifted to hospital for treatment”, the spokesman said.
He said that the hiding militant was also given an opportunity to surrender, however, he kept on firing on the troops. “The fire was effectively retaliated, leading to an encounter,” he said.
In the ensuing encounter, a local militant linked with proscribed militant outfit Al-Badr was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter. He has been identified as Adil Majeed Lone son of Abdul Majeed Lone resident of Akbarabad Hawoora, Kulgam.
“Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including one pistol with live ammunition and a grenade were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation.”
“In this regard, a case under relevant Sections of law has been registered and further investigation is in progress. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area at encounter site is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials, if any”, he added.
