JAMMU, June 29: Senior BJP leader and former minister, Bali Bhagat has accused the National Conference (NC) of sowing the seed of separatism, which had long plagued the region, ultimately leading to the unrest in Valley for more than 50 years.
In a statement issued here today, the senior BJP leader pointed out that the nefarious beginnings of sectarianism in Kashmir can be traced back to Sheikh Abdullah’s agitations against the rule of Maharaja Hari Singh. Abdullah’s fervent push for self-rule in Kashmir acted as the breeding ground for separatist ideologies, gradually poisoning the minds of the Kashmiri population, he added.
Bali Bhagat said that the NC’s long-standing radicalization and separatist ideologies have perpetuated grave injustice towards daily wage workers in Jammu and Kashmir. “These daily wagers, who are already vulnerable due to socio-economic factors, endure further hardships due to the repercussions of the NC’s divisive ideologies. NC promised these daily wagers in every election for their regularization but whenever they came in power betrayed them. Many of them were pushed to join militancy in the name of Islamic Jihad,” he added.
The former minister said since the year of independence in 1947 until 2019, more than 42,000 lives have been tragically lost as a direct result of the NC’s radicalization and separatist agenda. This alarming statistic serves as a sobering reminder of the devastating consequences that arise from political ideologies focused on division and hatred, he asserted.
Fearing the potential consequences of such divisive rhetoric and strategies, Bali Bhagat called on the people of Jammu and Kashmir to remain vigilant and steer clear of the NC’s divisive policies. He asked people of J&K to support the BJP and its vision for a united, peaceful, and prosperous India. He stated, “Only by rejecting the politics of division and embracing the principles of unity and progress can we secure a brighter future for J&K.”
