I&B Secy reviews functioning of media units, merger of CBC & PIB

JAMMU, July 1: Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Apurva Chandra, conducted a two-day visit to Jammu where he reviewed the functioning of Press Information Bureau (PIB) and Central Bureau of Communication (CBC).
A press statement said that the visit aimed to assess the progress of the merger between CBC and PIB and evaluate the media units’ performance.
During his visit, Chandra obtained an overview of the outreach programs conducted by CBC and its field units across Jammu and Kashmir. Recognizing the significance of PIB and CBC, he emphasized their role in showcasing the transformation of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh at the national level. He commended CBC’s outreach initiatives and PIB’s media coverage in remote areas.
The I&B Secretary also highlighted the emerging trend of hosting national-level conferences in Jammu and Kashmir, such as the G20, and underscored the crucial role of PIB and other media units in projecting these events both nationally and internationally. Furthermore, he announced plans to increase media tours between Jammu and Kashmir and other regions.
Ghulam Abbas, Joint Director of CBC Jammu and Kashmir, apprised the Secretary about the importance of field units and their role in facilitating direct communication at the grassroots level. He also provided an overview of the outreach programs conducted in remote locations, including Kargil and Machhedi.
Ayushi Puri, Deputy Director of CBC Jammu and Kashmir, presented the annual action plan for CBC and outlined the programs planned for the financial year 2023-24. She also discussed the social media activities of CBC’s handles in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, showcasing images of participants and innovative activities incorporated into the outreach programs.
