RAMBAN, July 3: Driver of a Kerosene Oil tanker died on the spot after the tanker he was driving rolled down and landed several hundred feet deep in a gorge in Shatani Nallah near Jawahar Tunnel in Banihal area on old alignment of Jammu Srinagar National Highway on Monday morning.
Police sources said that the tanker bearing registration number JK02BT-8971 was moving towards Kashmir.
After getting information about the accident cops and local volunteers reached the spot and shifted the dead body of the driver to SDH Banihal for post-mortem and identification.
Police has identified the deceased as Ajay Kumar, 28, son of Thoru Ram, resident of Akhnoor, Jammu.
After completing post-mortem and other legal formalities body of the deceased was handed over to his relatives for last rites.
A case in this regard has been registered under relevant sections of law at Police Station Banihal and investigation in the case has been started.
