JAMMU, July 5: Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib was celebrated with religious fervour across the region today.
The main function in Jammu was held at Gurudwara Chhati Patshahi Tahli Sahib, Talab Tillo, Jammu. Devotees paid obeisance at Gurdwara throughout the day. The programme was organized by District Gurudwara Parbhandak Committee Jammu in which devotees from all parts of Jammu participated.
Besides prominent local Parcharaks S Surjit Singh, Ragi Jatha’s of Bhai Harjinder Singh, from Srinagar and Ragi Jatha of Principal Sukhwant Singh Jawadi Taksal, Ludhiana recited Shabad Kirtans.
Their recitation of Gurbani Kirtan was the main attraction for the Sikh Sangat of Jammu. Another prominent Parcharak Giani Ajit Singh Alamgeer from Ludhiana also participated in the programme.
DGPC Jammu in continuation of its commitment to honour all those Sikh students and who excel in various fields, today honoured all the three community candidates who cracked UPSC exam this year- Namneet Singh, Major Abhinandan Singh and Parasanjeet Kour; Avleen Kour (JKAS), Jt Director Rural Development and Panchayti Raj Department Jammu, S Harvinder Singh who has been appointed as Korfball Coach of India Team, Dr Harpreet Kour who completed her Phe in Punjabi, Dr Navneet Kour social activist and Sonika Gupta Corporator Ward No-30 for her contribution in various developmental works of Gurudwara and some other officers.
Ranjeet Singh Tohra, president DGPC threw light on the life of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib. He extended gratitude to the devotees who participated in large numbers and all those Sewadars who prepared Langar, doctors who arranged free medical camp and all others who put up stalls of free religious books.
Tohra announced that this year’s holidays are mentioned in the State Calendar as per Mool Nanak Shahi Calendar.
Balvinder Singh, vice president DGPC, while addressing the gathering elaborated the achievement and works done by DGPC Jammu during the period of their one year tenure like making arrangements for coaching of Sikh aspirants for IAS/JKAS. Ranvir Singh, Jt Secretary, Harjit Singh, Member and Incharge Dharam Parchar Committee DGPC Jammu also addressed the Sangat.
Jagpal Singh, cashier DGPC Jammu, Tejinder Singh and Avtar Singh Members DGPC Jammu were also present. Surjit Singh general secretary coordinated the programme.
Similar functions were held on the occasion of Gurpurab at various places across the region.
