Sham for introducing moral education subject

JAMMU, Dec 13: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma today called for a change in the present education system and stressed the need for introducing moral education subject to revive rich ethos of Indian culture which is unique identification of our pluralistic society.
The moral values are diluting day by day from the society and need of the hour was to make collective efforts to restore the age old rich ethics and heritage of our culture and to give right direction to the younger generation, said the Minister.
The Minister was speaking at an award function organized by the Rotary Club at Akhnoor today.
Maintaining that in the present era the main focus is laid on the children to secure maximum marks and to become engineer and doctors after their studies, but side by side moral education should also be imparted which is essential for the overall progress of the youth. He stressed for making essential moral education subject from secondary level as well as higher education so that the students were nurtured and prepared to shoulder future responsibilities. He said that teachers and parents are the architects of younger generation who shape the personality of students as such they should work in close coordination to achieve better results.
Asking the students to work hard to achieve success, the Minister said that there is no alternative for hard work which pays in the long run. He said that education is the only tool which changes the socio-economic profile of an individual and the society and asked the students particularly girls to devote themselves for achieving the goals.
The Minister also hailed the philanthropic services of the Rotary Club, saying that the Club is always in forefront in the services of society and particularly for the sick and needy. He asked the functionaries of the Club to initiate more ventures for the poor students to uplift them in the society.
On the occasion the Minister distributed prizes, mementoes to the meritorious students of various Government and private institutions hailing from Akhnoor tehsil.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included, Chairman Rotary Club, Anoop Gupta, President Aman Gupta, Secretary Ashish Mahajan, Principals, and teachers, students of various institutions of Akhnoor tehsil, prominent citizens and sectoral officers of various departments.
