SKIMS, Medtronic collaborate to launch innovative CPR Skill Lab

Srinagar, July 6: In a significant step towards bringing change in emergency cardiac care, the Department of Cardiology at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) has partnered with India Medtronic Pvt. Ltd to introduce a ground-breaking CPR Skill Lab.
The inauguration ceremony, held today, was attended by Prof. Parvaiz A. Koul, Director, SKIMS, Prof. Bashir A. Laway, Dean, Medical Faculty at SKIMS, Michael Blackwell, Vice President & Managing Director, Medtronic India, and the members of the Cardiology Faculty, led by Prof. Hilal A Rather, Head, Cardiology at SKIMS, and Prof. Aijaz Ahmad Lone.
SKIMS PRO said that Medtronic has donated the CPR Skill Lab to SKIMS, marking a significant milestone in the collaborative efforts of both organizations.
“The state-of-the-art training facility is poised to play a pivotal role in saving lives during sudden cardiac arrests. It offers comprehensive training programs and cutting-edge resources that will empower medical students to gain practical experience and proficiency in life-saving techniques.”
Additionally, the PRO said, the Lab will serve as a valuable asset to SKIMS’ faculty, ensuring they remain up-to-date with the latest advancements in resuscitation practices.
“The facility will also provide paramedical staff and allied healthcare professionals with an opportunity to enhance their skills, ultimately raising the standard of critical care offered at SKIMS,” he added.
Expressing his gratitude, Prof. Koul extended heartfelt appreciation to India Medtronic for their collaboration in establishing this advanced CPR Skill Lab.
He emphasized the critical role of CPR as an emergency procedure capable of saving lives and highlighted the Lab’s potential to serve as a vital training ground for medical professionals.
Michael Blackwell highlighted the urgent need for action, pointing out that a staggering 95 per cent of individuals experiencing sudden cardiac arrest do not receive life-saving therapy within the crucial four to six minutes.
He reaffirmed Medtronic’s commitment in improving patient care and stated that this partnership with SKIMS would allow them to make a significant impact in delivering effective healthcare solutions.
