JAMMU, July 6: Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Jammu, under the Union Government’s program Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, has made significant strides in combating drug abuse in society. In recent operations, the ANTF apprehended nine drug peddlers and recovered a substantial quantity of narcotics, including 1.76 quintals of poppy straw.
Led by Shamsher Singh, DySP ANTF Jammu Zone, and supervised by SSP ANTF J&K, Raj Kumar, the team successfully dismantled an interstate racket involved in drug peddling, distribution, and reception. The seized narcotics were cleverly concealed within a fabricated cavity in a vehicle.
These operations mark a crucial breakthrough for ANTF Jammu, as they have disrupted the network of narcotics suppliers and receivers operating between Kashmir and Punjab. Within the past few days, the ANTF has registered six FIRs and arrested major drug peddlers from various states, including J&K, Punjab, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Haryana, and Rajasthan. One FIR was registered in Police Station ANTF Kashmir, and five were registered in Police Station ANTF Jammu.
Earlier, two individuals, including a woman, were arrested with heroin, followed by the recovery of two kilograms of Charas from two more persons, one from Mumbai and the other from Kolkata.
Additionally, a drug peddler from Poonch was found in possession of 200 bottles of Codeine phosphate, 900 Narco tablets, and 216 capsules, leading to another arrest.
Moreover, 3.600 kilograms of Charas were seized from an individual, further strengthening the ANTF’s campaign against drug smugglers, peddlers, distributors, and receivers.
Investigations are underway to identify both the forward and backward linkages within the drug network.
ANTF J&K has urged the public, especially the youth, to distance themselves from drugs and to share any information related to drug-related activities with the ANTF. The identities of informants and whistle-blowers will be kept confidential.
