UDHAMPUR, July 7: Panicked over the presence of wild animals in their inhabited area, locals of village Meer in Panchari today protested against the Department of Wildlife Conservation and District Administration.
The protesting villagers were raising slogans against the concerned authorities and demanding immediate action to capture the wild animals, which have attacked several people in the area during the past two months. Four women, namely Pushpa Devi, Savitri Devi, Sushma Devi and Mori Devi have been injured in the wild animal attacks but no action was taken by the Wildlife Department, they lamented.
“Fruit and maize crop have been badly damaged as people are unable to protect their fields due to fear of leopards that have variously attacked domestic animals,” they added.
Villagers alleged that despite repeated pleas to the Wildlife Conservation Department and other Government authorities, no action was taken to capture the wild animals from the populated area. They feared that if no action is taken, the villagers would be left with no option other than to migrate to safer area.
The protest was led by Sandur Singh, Jagannath, Prakash Singh, Naseeb Singh, Atma Singh, Ravinder Singh and Mulkh Raj.
