JAMMU, Dec 13: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today called on UPA chairperson and AICC (I) president Sonia Gandhi at her 10 Janpath residence in New Delhi and discussed with her the latest political situation in the State and upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the State, which were due next year.
In about an hour long meeting, Omar, who also happened to be working president of National Conference, reiterated the party’s support to UPA saying “the bonds of relations between the two (UPA and NC) will get further strengthened in the coming days’’.
Sonia and Omar reviewed the status of functioning of the NC-Congress coalition Government in Jammu and Kashmir. They expressed satisfaction over functioning of the Government.
NC president and Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Dr Farooq Abdullah has already expressed his party’s support to the UPA despite defeat suffered by the Congress in recently held Assembly elections in 4 States.
Incidentally, today was the first working day of Sonia Gandhi after the Congress defeat in 4 States as she had proceeded to South Africa to join last rites of Nelson Mandela.
Omar is reported to have told Sonia Gandhi that NC was decisively with the Congress. Both the leaders decided to strengthen the bonds between NC and Congress further in the State.
