GPC to conduct verifications of ongoing projects: Malhotra

SRINAGAR, June 20: Chairman, Legislative Council Amrit Malhotra chaired the General Purpose Committee (GPC) meeting of Legislative Council here today.
Legislators, B. R. Kundal, Murtaza Ahmed Khan, Dharmbir Singh Oberoi, Nurboo Gialchan and Syed Mohammad Rafiq Shah participated in the meeting. The members gave several suggestion to improve the functioning of the committee and making Government functionaries accountable in forwarding developmental profile of the state.
The meeting decided that it would held its Summer Council Secretariat at Jammu also for immediate redressal of people’s developmental needs and other important issues.
The Committee during the meeting discussed several important issues regarding the purpose, conduct and functioning of the committee.
The Chairman said that the Committee will conduct on-the-spot verifications of the different ongoing project in various areas of the State. He said that Committee would forward its recommendations to the Government about different issues confronting to the people for their redressal.
The Chairman stressed for making the functioning of the Committees more result oriented. He asked the Secretary Council Mohammad Ashraf Mir to send the agenda of the Committees to the concerned departments well in advance so that they can come fully prepared.
Among others, Deputy Secretary Council Mohammad Maqbool Bhat and other senior officers attended the meeting.
