UDHAMPUR, July 9: Former Minister Harsh Dev Singh today led a protest by Jammu Kashmir National Panthers Party at Gol Market Udhampur against unprecedented price hike of essential items.
The protesting people raised slogans against the Government, ruling BJP and alleged nexus of the duo with hoarders.
Harsh Dev challenged BJP leaders to raise their voice against the exorbitant price increases and join the protests out on the streets, as they used to complain about tomato prices when they used to be a mere fraction of today.
“Prices of tomatoes skyrocketed across the nation last week and now costing more than fuel. Prices hit record highs last week of 250 rupees per kilogram in Uttarakhand and 200 rupees per kilogram in New Delhi. Marking over 1000 percent jump in prices from the beginning of 2023 when they were 22 rupees per kilogram. Likewise the prices of essential commodities, cereals and articles of day to day use have increased many fold thereby posing the most menacing threat to the pockets of the common man,” he said.
Harsh Dev questioned BJP’s promises of economic growth, jobs and affordability for India’s impoverished majority. The Government has utterly failed and is imploding with record high prices, out of control hyperinflation, unemployment and child starvation, he alleged.
Yet, he added, somehow the cronies of BJP and their associated corporate heads are increasing their profits and making more money for themselves at the expense and exploitation of the masses and majority of abused Indian citizens.
Singh said that the atrocities on the poor and marginalised sections had so intensified in the saffron rule that the people were eagerly awaiting to teach a lesson to the highly ascendant BJP regime. He appealed the youth, the women folk, the aged and the old to support Panthers Party in its initiative to restore justice to the teaming millions of the state.
Prominent among those who joined the protest demonstration, included Ashri Devi, DDC; Manju Singh, Ankit Love, Ankit Senson, Rajkumar, Sham Lal Sharma, Om Prakash, Ravinder Singh and others.
