KATHUA, July 9: Mining Department, Kathua today seized an excavator and two vehicles for illegal mining in Ujh river.
An official handout said that acting swiftly on complaint of illegal excavation in Ujh river in morning hours, District Mineral Officer, Kathua along with mining guards rushed to the spot and seized machine along with two vehicles.
Besides, seizing the machine and vehicles Rs two lakh penalty was imposed on excavator for illegal digging and dumping.
Reportedly, both vehicles and excavator after seizure as per the rules of Geology and Mining Department were kept in the custody of Police Post (PP) Nagri till realization of penalty from violators.
Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, Rakesh Minhas has already instructed the Mining Department to remain vigilant to curb illegal mining activities and impose heavy penalties on the violators and miners so that they dare not to indulge in illegal mining practices.
