Geology and Mining Deptt heightens vigil against illegal mining

SAMBA, July 10:   The Geology and Mining Department Samba has heightened vigil to curb illegal mining of minor minerals from the water bodies amid the rainy season.
On the directions of Deputy Commissioner, Abhishek Sharma, the DMO, Sayeed leading a team of mining guards today seized 5 tractor trolleys, 3 from Basantar River, 2 from Dabaoh area of Nud for illegal extraction and transportation of sand. Two trollies were left behind in river bed by the violators.
Meanwhile, on the complaint of locals, a penalty to the tune of Rs1.23 Lakh was imposed on a minor-mineral dealer license holder (MDL) for stocking material beyond legal source. The DMO along with a team of officials conducted an on the spot assessment and found excess material in the Druai area of Nud Block.
