BILLAWAR, July 10: Former Minister of State (MoS) Dr Manohar Lal Sharma today held a massive protest in Billawar against rising prices of essential commodities, vegetables and unscheduled power cuts.
Up in arms against unscheduled power cuts, Manohar Lal led a strong protest demonstration which was joined by people from all walks of life. The people raised slogans against the Power Development Department and LG administration and alleged that for the last few days, they are facing frequent unscheduled power cuts with the result water supply has also been severely hit.
“During these hot summer days, long and unscheduled power curtailment has made life miserable,” Manohar said and appealed to the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene in the matter and ensure adequate power supply to the people.
On the issue of rising vegetable prices, Dr Sharma said this has caused wide spread worry among people grappling with inflation and economic challenges. He said the current price hike has raised significant concern as a nation renowned for its diverse agricultural practices and abundant harvests. Tomatoes, a staple in Indian cuisine, have seen the biggest price increase, with some markets reporting prices as high as Rs 150 per kilogram. Other vegetables have also seen significant price hikes.
Prominent among those who joined included Sham Spolia, Th Bhudhi Singh, Romal Singh, Vipul Sharma, Jagdev Singh, Puran Chand Sarpanch, Capt Hans Raj, Ram Lal Bhatti, Raj Kumar, Jia Lal Vidyal, Ved ParkashShashtri and others.
