Sabha recalls yeoman’s service of Lala Hans Raj Mahajan, Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan

JAMMU, Dec 15: The 147th birth anniversary of Sher Duggar Lala Hans Raj Mahajan and 124th birth anniversary of Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan were celebrated with great fervour and enthusiasm today. In this connection a grand function was organized by Central Mahajan Sabha at Mahajan Hall here today in which rich tributes were paid to these two luminaries of Jammu.
A large number of people including intellectuals, professionals, social activists etc attended the function.
The function started with recitation of Ram Bhajan which was followed by paying of tributes to Lala Hans Raj Mahajan and Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan.
Former Union Minister and MLA Jammu West Constituency Prof Chaman Lal Gupta was chief guest on the occasion while Subash Gupta and Naresh Gupta both MLCs, senior NC leader Rattan Lal Gupta and Amar Nath Gupta chief patron of the Sabha were special guests.
Vinod Gupta president Central Mahajan Sabha in his address highlighted the activities undertaken by the Sabha for welfare of children and women.
He said Sabha has opened marriage bureaus, Justice Mehar Chand Charitable Hospital at Gandhi Nagar, started monthly pension for widows, handicaps, needy and poor people and poor students of the community etc.
He appealed the people to follow the path shown by Lala Hans Raj Mahajan and Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan.
Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, while paying tributes to the two veterans of Jammu appreciated the contribution of Justice Mahajan as a member of Redchif Committee which played major role in connecting J&K with rest of India through Gurdaspur. While recalling the roll of Lala Ji he termed him a great social reformer of the time, founder of Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha, Dogra Sadar Sabha, Rajput Sabha and Akhil Bharatiya Shiromani Sabha.
Subash Gupta, Naresh Gupta, Rattan Lal Gupta and Amarnath Gupta threw light on the contribution of Lala Ji and Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan for which not only the people of Jammu but entire nation feel proud of them as they had worked for the welfare of the communities irrespective of caste , creed, religion and region.
During the function people of Mahajan community who excelled in various fields including Civil Services of Central and State, Medical, Engineering, Journalism, literature, higher education, besides position holders in 10 th,12 th, graduation and post graduation examinations were felicitated.
In addition to it those couples of Mahajan Community were also felicitated who solemnized their marriages without dowry.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Sudesh Gupta, senior vice president of the Sabha and the programme was compared by Amar Chand Gupta, Chander Mohan Gupta and Pawan Gupta office bearers of the Sabha.
